So... Daggerath. Yea, it's been a while as both of the developers are in rigorous courses <AP, honors, and IB>. However, some major progress has been made both in design. We hope to launch our alpha this summer. We just have to program in a better combat engine and finish the water-faring mechanic (as you can see above.)

So we settled on a set world with randomized elements. The terrain generator was really coming at the expense of quality in tile making like these above. With this pre-designed map, we can have all the detail we want, while being able to maintain quality. This also meant that we were able to switch the camera view to something more aesthetically pleasing:

This is all done with outdated or place-holder art assets. Since my friend and I are both busy, we sometimes have periods where he gets time to program but I don't have time to animate or create any artwork. This is what the new tiles and buildings will look like:

One last pick of redesigned dwarf. He is designed so that all the previous items fit him. : Screenshot_2015_01_04_22_21_18.jpg

This... looks really awesome! I know I haven't been in here much, but I think I've chosen the perfect time to return :P

(I wouldn't mind testing the alpha, on that note... :V )

Hey, thanks. Yeah, the one thing I forgot mention was how we are doing the progression system. The programmer wants to do a more stat-based system (DnD or Elder Scrolls) where you have XP in the like. I would have it more as an item system (like Minecraft or Zelda). I just don't want any abstract achievements for gameplay. We're working on a compromise though. Either way, there will be a lot of unique items that give you interesting powers and side-effects, as well as quests and upgrades or them. I'll wait to show of some of our mechanics later.

Well, I'd think a system where you get items that slowly upgrade over time (i.e. Spiral Knights, I believe) would be an interesting compromise for a disagreement like that. It might make things more interesting as the player weighs the difficulties of leveling up a next-tier weapon over just using their fully upgraded but out-dated sword. Maybe even have abilities and stuff rely on gear that has been leveled to a certain degree? (I think Path of Exile has a system like that...)

A Wulfgard ant lion^

This picture inspired the style I used in the comic below. I only drew with colors that intentionally did not match. Green, purple, and orange. I was going to leave it at that, but adding the white for the sun implied a sort of dynamic lighting in such an oddly colored world. The character you see in both of these pictures is called "Buchanan".

I might take this idea further and do some story boards. Do you guys know whats going on here?^

I really can't get over how awesome your mechanical stuff looks, as well as your aliens. The martian really has a great, tribal feel around him, and all of the machines have a wonderful, scrappy, rusty feel to them. Keep up the good work ^^

I would have said that the Martian looks like a Turk or something, but Tribal is better. :D

That Unicorn Duck Thingie looks Legit, and your Sci-Fi stuff puts mine to shame... :P

I WILL IMPROVE! :D

I'm very much digging the strange bestiary on display here, particularly the Ant-Lion thing a little ways up.

The Lion that is partially an Ant (I think), there's some very obscure terminology going on lately

...Whoa.

This is easily the very best artwork I've seen you make! I literally cannot describe how awesome it is to see you jump from (mostly) relatively simple portraits to... well, something like this! It's fantastic!

Thanks, guys, I really appreciate it. The jump is not the hard part. Being able to produce a simple little sketch with a good idea is really the difficulty. I usually do simple portraits because I am busy practicing the core idea of designing, in my opinion. But yeah, using colors is probably the thing I'll end up studying in college.

Well, I will say that more color wouldn't hurt make the image clearer, but just the colors you've used so far really help set the mood! ^^
