So I started texturing about a week ago for a mod for Homeworld 2 based on Halo. The mod is supposed to be a total conversion and can be found here, but that's enough about that.

This topic I guess can be called a portfolio, but as I update it, I want heavy C&C. Most of the colors and stuff are by the request of the modeller, so that's not really up for debate. But stuff like "I think this area lacks detail" and such really helps.

Here is what I've finished:

No its a Shortbutterknife.

Anyways, great work Zero. I can hardly believe that this is the first time you've tried texturing models, you make it look easy! (No seriously I wanna... obtain 3D Max and give it a try myself. :D)

I'd appreciate a less patronizing attitude

I think it looks pretty pro, it's not a totally faithful recreation of the ones in the games, but those look pretty garbage anyway. Only thing I would suggest is some more color (like maybe the windows or unit markings), so it stands out more to the player in what I presume to be the darkness of space.

Well like I said, the modeller gets the priveledge of choosing colors, but I agree. Originally, the markings were more pronounced, but now they are just meh-ish.

Damn Zero, I'm impressed. I really don't see anything negative that jumps out at me, did you really just start doing this?

EDIT: Found something, I think the back half of the tail would look better with the metal grain texture on it. ;)

Nice try Dense, but it's a specular layer so the grain only shows up in direct light. ;)

You can see what I mean by the fourth Longsword picture.

Well fine, if you want to be all pro about it. :P Don't screw with me Zero, this is way too good for you to have just picked up in the last week. You must have at least had some Photoshop experience before.

I use Adobe Fireworks because the layer system is better than Photoshop and I can draw things much easier.

I'd disagree with that on so many levels, but I guess you can't argue with success...

I'm pretty sure the layers in Photoshop CS4 are non-stackable and the only way to join layers is to flatten them. In Fireworks, I can group layers and they still retain their editability. I can also use the pen/vector tool to draw objects whereas the pen tool in Photoshop is merely for a cosmetic type of deal.

Amazing! Love the LongswordPosted Image (although I agree more colour is needed) and i'm sure the frigate will look just as good, if not better, when it's finished.

Just wanted to give you guys an update on the Frigate.

All that's left to do is the added armor on the engine nacelle and the docking port, then touch ups on the upper and lower arms, around the cockpit, then it's ready for bumping.

Are you planning on texturing other class UNSC vessels? I know Homeworld 2 has a boatload of ships you can produce and build so are you texturing all of them?
