POPULAR

Welcome to Errant patch 2.1! Yes, we're running patches now. Hopefully we'll never have to endure Tuesday maintenance, though.

 

Highlights of the Patch:

  • Society section in the Sign-Up Thread
  • Special Races unlocked (virtually every intelligent creature in the realm currently listed on the wiki is now available to play as; see sign-up thread for details)
  • Ability score bonuses rebalanced for all races
  • New Race (Dryads) unlocked
  • New Chaos Subrace (Chaos Beasts) unlocked
  • New Beastfolk subrace (Sirens) unlocked
  • New Factions unlocked
  • New Education languages unlocked
  • Fast Travel implemented
  • Certain players can now create up to two player characters

 

For starters, the Sign-Up Thread...

 

The biggest new features include the Special Races section and the Societies chart. Please see the section on Society for more info (a link to the chart can be found under the spoiler box - be sure to check it out!). Even if you aren't signing up as a second character and you're already in the RP, you should check out the Society section in the sign-up thread.

 

SIGN-UP UPDATES/NEW ADDITIONS

RACES

New Additions:

  • Dryads have been added to Races
  • Chaos Beasts have been added under Chaos Races
  • Sirens have been added under Beastfolk
  • Special Races section added (HUGE update, but not for the faint of heart), including Werewolves, Vampires, Demons, Celestials, Dragons, Dragon-kin, Jotnar, Cyclopes, Vargs, Revenants, and Trolls

Changes to Existing Races:

  • Stats for all Beastfolk subraces have been individualized and their advantages and disadvantages now vary
  • Elves receive +2 Agility and dwarves receive +2 Constitution, as opposed to +1
  • Chaos Races' advantages and disadvantages have been altered

 

SOCIETY

The Society section has been added. This accompanies your Race, but it is very important. Be sure to open the spoiler box and click the link to the Society chart.

 

FACTIONS

New Additions:

  • Order of the Dragon (listed as Knight of Dracon)
  • SPECIAL RACE ONLY FACTIONS (listed under a spoiler box) - Nightsong Pack, Bloodhunt Pack, The Accursed, Lady Nefertari's Coven, Grimwing Coven, Umbra Coven

 

Note on Existing Factions:

Regarding existing factions, any players choosing a Special Race should take note of something added to the introduction to the Factions section: If you are a Special Race that can assume a human disguise, you may be a member of a human faction and hiding your true nature. If your true nature is discovered, you may no longer be a member of that faction, depending upon how they react.

 

TALENTS

  • The Education section now includes options to be educated in the following languages: Beastfolk (other than Southwestern Wilds), Demonic, Angelic, Draconic, Wolven

 

Those of you who want to sign up as a secondary character and especially if you want to sign up as a Special Race, then please look over the entire sign-up thread for any changes and new info. You'll find bits scattered about on the new races and other important information.

 

Anyone whose character has Education and wants to switch to a different language (i.e. such as one of the new ones), please PM me. You may only do so once, however.

 

The stat alterations will be entered for each existing character. In other words, elf and dwarf players now get an additional +1 agility or constitution, respectively. I'll edit this into the character sheets myself, so no need to worry about it.

 

 

IN-GAME CHANGES:

 

Fast Travel

Fast Travel has now been implemented. When a player sets off for a location, you will instantly travel to that zone instead of having to slowly pass through all the land in-between. You may choose to stop along the way in order to rest. You may also be interrupted by random encounters, and you cannot progress to your desired zone until the encounter has been dealt with.

 

Multiple Player Characters per Person

Certain players can now create a second character to play as in addition to their current one. This is completely optional. A few rules apply:

  • Your two characters must not meet or interact, regardless of whether they are friends or enemies (especially if it's deliberate on your part; if circumstances may result in such a meeting, details will be worked out as it comes, but you are never to have this goal in mind for your characters)
  • You must not neglect one character in favor of the other; this doesn't mean you always have to post something for both if the other is pending interaction with another player, obviously, but you must not simply throw aside your other character

If you break these rules, your second character will be taken away from you, even if it is returned at a later date.

 

Thus far, players with access to a secondary character slot are as follows, for being active, dedicated, collaborative, and supportive for an extended period of time...

IN-GAME CHANGES:

 

Multiple Characters per Person

As detailed in patch 2.1, some players can now play as up to two characters at a time. The following players have been added to the list of those who can play as two characters at once (all previous rules still apply)...

RACES
Changes to Existing Races:
  • Clarification added under Demon (Special Race) regarding the fact that a demon must have their Deity listed as the demon lord from which they are spawned; the same applies to Celestials
  • A list of High Angels has been added to the Celestials section, for reference when listing the Celestial's deity (hopefully a wiki page for angels will be forthcoming)
  • Added a note under Dragons mentioning how their HP is calculated (CON x 20)
TRAITS
Changes to Existing Traits:
  • Clarification added for the trait Drop-Dead Gorgeous, since I've hit turbulence from some people about it: 
     It's noteworthy to mention that, if you don't take this trait, it by no means indicates your character is not drop-dead gorgeous, if you describe them as such - this trait just means you are both good-looking and know how to use those looks to charm others and get your way.
 
IN-GAME CHANGES:
 
KICKSTARTER BACKER REWARDS - Three Character Slots and/or Duos
So, I wasn't going to allow any duos and I wasn't going to allow for more than two characters , but since Errant is a Wulfgard RP, I'll give anyone who backs the Wulfgard Kickstarter for at least $45* an extra, third character slot in the RP - and it doesn't have to follow the rules of the secondary character slot. That is to say, you can make a duo. However, if you use all three of your character slots, one of those characters still has the follow the rules of never running into/interacting with your duo, etc. It's also optional whether you want to make them a duo or just have three separate characters.
 
*: The reason it's at least $45 is because otherwise you don't get the first official Wulfgard novel (which will also be my first published novel), Knightfall - and you do want Knightfall... right? :P

  • A section entitled "Example Potential Companions" has been added below the current companion list, and inactive companion(s) have been relocated to the bottom of the topic. Please note, of course, that this small list of examples is by no means to be taken as a full list of available companions. There are a lot of companions in the game. 

 

[NEW] CUSTOM CONTENT THREAD

 

A brand new OOC topic has been added to the Errant board: the Custom Content Thread! Here, you may create your own custom factions, locations, and more, and have them inserted into Errant. Please note that they must be approved before they are added. Lots more details can be found in the Custom Content thread.

SIGN-UP UPDATES

 

RACES:

Changes to existing races:

  • Fixed an error in which the Sea Elves link would lead you to the Sirens article. This occurred due to sea elves and sirens later being split apart into two separate creatures in the lore, instead of both terms referring to the same race.

 

PLAYER LIST UPDATES

  • The player lists (the list of character sheets and the inventories) are now arranged by group. A guide to the groups can be found in the Errant Campaigns topic.
  • Characters that have been inactive for over a month have been removed from the list(s). Players will have to request to play as these characters again by re-posting their sign-up sheet in the Sign-Up Topic.

 

NPC COMPANIONS UPDATES

  • The NPC companions list is now arranged by group.
  • Updated Kye's character appearance artwork.
  • Moved some inactive NPCs to the Inactive group, added some tentative WIP NPCs for one of the upcoming Errant campaigns (Lykanthropos).

 

[NEW] ERRANT CAMPAIGNS

 

The Errant Campaigns thread allows players to view a quick guide of the current and pending campaigns. New campaigns will be posted here. Players can also suggest their own campaigns and request players to join according to certain guidelines (if they are seeking all-new characters rather than encouraging players to use their existing ones). Further details can be found in the Campaigns thread itself.

 

UPDATES:

  • Two new campaigns have been added and are currently awaiting players: the campaigns are named Morituri and Lykanthropos. More info here (Morituri is listed first, Lykanthropos second, in the same post).

RACES:

Changes to existing races:

  • Celestials and Celestial-kin have been REMOVED from the playable races. I have been meaning to do this for a while, because celestials and celestial-kin are simply too complicated to be listed as playable races without an extensive wiki page (at least as extensive as the one on demons). The lore is simply not hammered out enough. Those of you who have celestial-kin already (like Sareth) can keep them from here on out, but no new celestials or celestial-kin are allowed.
  • Pixies are being added to playable races (once I, you know, edit them in soon).

SIGN-UP UPDATES

 

Traits:

  • Traits have been REMOVED from Errant. They felt redundant and overall more of a burden than a boon, and they were just another thing making the sign-up process lengthier for new players. The Talents system will be overhauled in the future to make more room for assorted aspects that Traits attempted (and failed, overall) to cover; otherwise, a character's appearance and/or bio being taken into account can take place of this section well enough.

 

Traits are currently being removed from all existing character sheets in the Player List thread as well. If anyone wishes to alter their Talents in response to losing their Trait, please PM me (namely those of you who had Drop-Dead Gorgeous but not Charisma, if you want to try and do something about that). Otherwise, overall, this shouldn't cause too much of an issue to the gameplay experience.

 

In other news, there are also a few posts up about some of my ideas for further altering Errant's game system. Any and all opinions are welcome, and as always, everyone can feel free to suggest other changes and/or additions to the game as well. As it stands right now, I plan to overhaul the Talent system in the future, possibly over Christmas break, if I can manage it, and make it more freeform and welcoming to a variety of character ideas.

3.0.0 - MEGA PATCH

 

GENERAL UPDATES

  • The entire Errant forum has been revamped! It now is divided up into OOC and IC subforums. The OOC forum is open for anyone to make topics, but IC is still restricted according to who has been approved as a DM.
  • The HP and inventory system has been eliminated to simplify things for everyone. It was a lot of work for me to keep up with all those things, and - to be frank - I couldn't ever keep them all up to date. This way, players will be more responsible for themselves... and it's up to your DM, be it me or another forum member, to keep track of at least your generalized HP and determine how bad your injuries are.
  • The player list system is in the process of being revised. It'll now just be a list of player and character names. The list will indicate who is accepted and currently in the RP, and it will include links to the member's sign-up that they posted (whether they posted it in the general sign-up thread or a specific campaign).

NEW CAMPAIGN AND SIGN-UP SYSTEM

FUTURE UPDATES

  • Revised talent system to allow for more customization (possibly).
  • Simplified and more customizable character creation.
  • A new campaign run by me.
  • An all-new World Event.

GENERAL UPDATES

  • The NPC Companions topic has been updated with some improved descriptions and general tweaking (and a rewritten description for Stevan), as well as better images for some characters (Tom, Caiden, Stevan). Character bios will continue to be updated as their characters are revealed.
  • Damnatio Memoriae has come to a sadly rushed finish. Details in the final DM post and the OOC post linked to in said final DM post. That campaign is now over.
  • Player List has been cleaned up. Updates to that will be coming soon; given Castle Blood will finish relatively soon, I'll be updating the player list again after that campaign is finished, for simplicity.

FUTURE UPDATES

  • A new campaign focused on Caiden Voros. Will be very heavily character oriented. I am excited to post further info in the nearish future! I've been working very hard on it.
  • Hopefully, some updates and revisions to the Sign-Up Thread. Suggestions and discussion about improvements are welcome in the OOC general discussion thread.

GENERAL UPDATES

  • The NPC Companions Thread has been updated to reflect the current companions in the Chasing Shadows campaign.
  • Inactive companions have been moved to the Inactive section of the NPC Companions thread.
  • The Player List thread has been hidden, for the time being, due to lack of use.

SIGN-UP UPDATES

  • Elves and Dwarves can now be Werewolves and Vampires, whereas previously these curses were restricted only to Humans. Players interested in this change must read the note about elf and dwarf werewolves/vampires in their respective sections under Special Races before signing up as one. Lycanthropy and Vampirism can be applied in-game, or players can sign up with it at the start of a campaign. (Note that the Wulfgard Wiki does not yet reflect this change in lore.)

FUTURE UPDATES

  • An improved and updated map, as can be found in copies of Wulfgard: Knightfall.

GENERAL UPDATES

  • THE WORLD MAP HAS BEEN UPDATED! Please note that, while this is a much more current version, the map is still very much a work in progress. Edits are still being made and new locations are still to be added. The map still cuts off much of the Southron lands, and those will be added in the future.
  • The DM Info Thread has been hidden. The overwhelming amount of info within may have been driving away potential campaign creators, and the topic will reappear later after undergoing heavy revisions.
  • The Errant Info Thread/FAQ has been revised and updated.
  • The Custom Content thread has been pinned to encourage the creation of more custom content of all types and remind the community of Errant's nonrestrictive nature.

MAJOR UPDATE!

  • The sign-up topic has been reworked extensively to try and streamline the sign up process. More revisions to the topic, as well as the entire system itself, are soon to come.
  • The section "Special Races" has been deleted and reworked.
  • Werewolves and Vampires have been put in the primary sign-up thread.
  • A new reply to the sign-up thread includes the "Monster Races," which are creatures that can never blend in with human society. The primary sign-up post includes only those races that can blend in with human/elf/dwarf society, be they monsters or not. There are, of course, exceptions to certain monsters and the societies with which they can interact. Therefore, the Societies chart can be found in the same post as the Monster Races.

 

FUTURE UPDATES

  • The DM Info Thread will be revised in the future (most likely over the summer).
  • The FAQ/Errant Info Thread will be undergoing considerable revision very soon (most likely over the summer)
  • New additions and changes (as well as rebalancing) to the Sign-Up Thread and all aspects of the RPG (yet again, most likely over the summer)
  • Many updates to the Errant Achievements, as well as actually awarding some to those who have earned them

ERRANT'S LEGACY

  • The success of Errant never could have happened without our best and most dedicated players - and the creation of the brand new Nova Refuge Persistent World, following in this board's footsteps, never could have happened without Errant! Be sure to check out Adrift, Errant's new Nova Refuge counterpart.

MAJOR PATCH

LOTS of big changes in this one! Even if you've been following along with my progress working on the new board, you need to make sure to look over everything again, as I've made multiple changes throughout (the Character Sheet has only just been - possibly - finalized).

 

Highlights of the Patch:

  • NEW board exclusively for character creation and development
  • Players are now free to create their own topics in all boards without requiring special permissions
  • New help threads
  • New Q&A thread
  • Much more

IMPORTANT - Changes to Character Sheet (returning players, read this)

  • While you are very much encouraged to bring back your old characters, be sure to check out the new character sheet, and change your old sign-ups to suit the updates
  • You should check each section to make sure there aren't any changes you want to make (for instance - you now get one extra Talent, and there are new talents available! Details later)
  • You must now keep track of your own inventory and currency
  • Returning characters should also not state their currency (just like new characters); I will tell you how much gold you have (characters returning from pre-4.0 Errant will get a bonus!)
  • If you did not save your character sheet from before, please sent me a PM. I can retrieve your old character sheet for you.
  • Be sure to check out all the other new features as well, such as houses!

 

NEW SIGN-UP SYSTEM - UPDATES

SO MANY things...

  • The old sign-up threads in the OOC board are now gone
  • An entire new board has been created exclusively for Character Creation, to emphasize the importance of your character in Errant, and characters in general
  • You will have to create new topics in this board for each of your characters! See this thread for details
  • All forms of magic (including Channeler and Berserkergang) are no longer talents. For more details, see the Magic thread.

NEW Character Sheet thread (and character sheet revisions)! Be sure to look.

 

RACES

  • The races are now consolidated into a Races thread in the Character Creation board
  • The primary Noble races are now emphasized: Humans, Elves, and Dwarves
  • Descriptions of every race have been revised and improved
  • Some new subraces have been added, including Desert Dwarves
  • ALL monster races have been relocated to a section of Monster Races, requiring special permission to play
  • Monster Races have been divided up into two sections: monsters that can hide among humans, and monsters that cannot
  • Certain races have been removed from regular availability, including Demons, Dragons, Jotnar, Cyclopes, and Trolls

INVENTORY, EQUIPMENT, CURRENCY, & PETS

  • Inventory, equipment, currency, and pets are now fully detailed in this thread in the Character Creation board
  • New characters now must choose a starting package to create their starting inventory; details in the thread
  • Characters belonging to factions can start with rare, higher quality equipment
  • New emphasis on currency
  • Ability to purchase or start out with pets (including mounts)

 

MAGIC

  • All information about magic has been consolidated to the Magic thread
  • All forms of magic are no longer talents; they go in a special section on your character sheet, if your character has any form of magic (Arcane, Divine, Spiritual, Demonic, or even other magical qualities, such as Berserkergang and Channeler)
  • All magic (except Berserkers and Channelers) requires special permission (especially characters with the Gift - this is to hopefully lower the number of mage characters, so that they do not seem so common)
  • Characters with magic will receive a list of some spells/abilities they may use (it will be posted as a reply to their character thread), but they may acquire new abilities over time (and/or have abilities they don't know about, as magic is mysterious and not well understood)

NEW IN-GAME FEATURES

 

HOUSING

New in-game feature: buy your character a house in-game! See this thread for details and each different kind of house available.

 

MOUNTS & PETS

A new post in the Inventory thread explains how pets work - including mounts and animal companions, available for purchase in-game and - under certain circumstances - new characters. See this post for details.

 

CURRENCY

New emphasis is being placed on in-game currency (but players must keep track of it themselves). For more details, see this post.

 

ACQUIRING TALENTS IN-GAME

Although not a new feature, the ability to acquire new talents in-game is now being emphasized. Visit this thread for details.

 

ACQUIRING LYCANTHROPY OR VAMPIRISM IN-GAME

Although not a new feature, the ability to acquire lycanthropy or vampirism in-game is now being emphasized. Visit this thread for details.

New Additions

 

A new type of magic has been added to the Magic topic in the Character Creation section - Conduit. Please see the Magic topic for more info (Conduit is now the last section of the original post).

 

Any questions regarding Conduits should be posed in the Errant Q&A thread, or asked to me directly via PM or DM on Discord.

 

Currency Update

 

For simplicity, currency will only be calculated for the characters who might potentially make immediate use of it. For some campaigns, currency won't be calculated for the sign-ups. If the characters created for such campaigns are used anywhere outside of the campaign (such as later used for free-roam), currency will be calculated for them.

 

In the future, the currency calculator will be tweaked and posted publicly so that players can calculate their own currencies.
