As Helga drove her hammer through another goblin’s head, she took a moment to look around and see how the battle was going. It did not look good. Practically everyone but the two dwarves were being overrun by the goblins, which continued to pour out of the forest. Slamming her shield into another goblin and following up with a heavy swing from her warhammer, Durnen noticed that Lynaia was very close and particularly vulnerable, left unarmed and up against goblins in spiky armor.

“Kragnar,” Helga called over the noise of battle in between strikes and parries, “Lynaia’s in trouble!”

She gestured toward the elf with her helmeted head as she began to forge her way toward the healer. Grunting with effort, she brought her hammer around in a wide semicircle, pushing back the goblins between the dwarves and the elf. Stomping into the breach and hoping Kragnar would take the hint and follow her, Helga continued to turn raging goblins into unpleasantly smelly paste. There were an awful lot of mad goblins, but with any luck she might be able to get between the elf and those spiky goblins in time...

Karrel gloried in the fight, swinging his longaxe with the thrill of battle. Fueled by rage and empowered by the slaughter, he felt immortal. Yet even this rush did not make him blind to the momentum of the battle as a whole. There were too many goblins. The companions were being slowly driven backward into a circle.

The northman pulled his weapon from the thigh of an unarmored goblin, but his finishing blow was intercepted by a battered but sturdy shield. His blade sunk into the wood, catching, and the goblin behind it jerked his axe to the side, forcing him to stagger. This brought him right in line with the goblin's crude sword. Karrel dropped his axe and caught the goblin's sword hand. He moved in and grappled with the weaker, but better armored, creature. The shield swung around again, smashing into the side of his head with blinding force. His teeth crunched together as he fell to the ground. The goblin approached his prone body, and the northman knew his dirk was too small to be of use. Instead, he drew the elven shortsword in time to block an overhand blow. The goblin was above him and leaned into his weapon, putting his full weight behind it. The strong, but dazed warrior felt his strength flagging. Suddenly, a grey blur intercepted the goblin. It snarled and sunk its teeth deep into the goblin's throat. Karrel staggered to his feet in time to see wolves springing at the entire goblin horde. He stumbled over to Serond and once more stood in front of the elf. He reached to draw his dirk in his off-hand, only to remember it lay embedded in some goblin's hand. His defense of the elf was nearly unnecessary; the wolves had turned the tide of battle. All that remained was to finish the rout.

Then out spake brave Horatius,

The Captain of the Gate:

"To every man upon this earth Death cometh soon or late.

And how can man die better

Than facing fearful odds,

For the ashes of his fathers,

And the temples of his gods."

"Fight. If you can't fight, defend yourself," spoke Tyrrik with a stern and focused voice. He held disappointment in his eyes, which Anna could see directly into when the man lifted her by the collar of her armor. He didn't waste time by explaining honor and whatnot, and that was what affected her the most. She felt so useless compared to her companions... Then, the Imperial let go of her before returning to fight alongside the brave warrior, Cradoc.

Then the dwarf from the group lead by the deceased-Kurtz came to fight beside the other two warriors, all protecting her. They fought viciously, killing goblin after goblin like it was nothing. This was nothing like the tales she had been told. Where was the treasure? The fun? Weren't the heroes supposed to be invincible? And yet here she was, two people cut down by what most in the world deemed pesky rodents not worthy of blood on their weapons... It really showed how vulnerable humans were to death... How vulnerable she was to death...

Then her new friend Finn charged a horde of goblins to protect her and the men guarding her. She felt awful. There was no way the man could handle the entire group by himself, and nobody was there to help him since they all rushed over to help her... That meant one thing. The thought itself made Anna want to vomit, though she knew that she would be haunted for the rest of her life if a friend's death was on her hands because they were protecting her.

Debating back and forth in her head, Anna charged out from the group of warriors that protected her. She ran frantically, scared out of her mind, straight to Finn before violently flinging her sword down into a goblin. Needless to say, the adrenaline her fear was giving her let her cut right through the creature. It was as if the sword were part of her, as she felt as if she had ripped the goblin with her bare hands. It was a disgusting feeling, but if Finn were left alone...

She couldn't stand it.

Even if she were to get overwhelmed by her own fear and pass out, she couldn't stand by. Rushing headlong like this was a stupid, foolish idea; and yet, she didn't regret it. As she swung her blade, her eyes half-closed as if it would make her feel better about murdering creatures like the ones before her, she killed a few goblins. While she certainly wasn't doing close to the amount of damage on the goblin horde as Tyrrik, Cradoc, Kragnar, and Finn did, Anna felt - for the first time in her life - like she was doing the right thing.

Her legs shook rapidly, more goblins approaching now that she was away from her protection, as her shortsword waivered in her hand. Then, wolves came. They came from nowhere, tearing apart dozens of goblins. Sandor fought alongside the forest dwellers, almost resembling them as he took down foe after foe. Even though she left protection, and was on the verge of passing out, the goblins' numbers had dwindled to where she wouldn't be overwhelmed easily. Still, with each slash she shouted as if she were receiving the blow.

This needed to end now, or her sanity would cease to be.

The wolves came from the woods like a tidal wave upon the shores in the East. Tyrrik was lucky that they were on the side of the woodsman, otherwise the group of warriors stood no chance. And if they hadn't arrived, then the warriors might have buckled under the weight of the goblins.

"Pick up your weapon," called Tyrrik. His eyes remained in that same condescending stare he carries about his person.

The goblin wasted no time in grabbing that jagged piece of metal and rolling into another attack. But Tyrrik deflected it once more sending the weapon flying through the air. The goblin sword flew into a tree, the weapon stuck in the thick bark. The goblin pulled all he could but the weapon wasn't going to budge. Tyrrik kept his weapons raised but refused to take on the attack. A man doesn't attack an unarmed enemy.

"Pick up another," he called.

But a wolf arrived from the woods and devoured the goblin without a second thought. Tyrrik raised a brow as he watched the beast divulge on the poor fellow. Not exactly a death befitting a warrior, even on of a lesser combat style and lineage, but death on the field of battle is honourable. Even if it comes from a creature not of knowledge with the world around them.

Lynaia retreated before the spike-armored goblins. The spikes were so close together that she couldn't land a blow on them without injuring herself. As she fell back before their advance, her foot brushed something hard and metallic on the ground. Taking a chance, she took her eyes off the sneering armored goblins for an instant to reach down and grab the object. What she came up with was a dead goblin's sword, a crude blade, and rather short for her size, but at least it gave her some reach.

With the sword, she used wide slashes to keep the armored goblins at bay, as she made her way back towards Helga and Kragnar.

"This means I will not have to regret sending back their envoy short a few limbs."
