This ending is as dark as Joseph's hat...yet it rings with such truth. Joseph's moral strength held out longer than anyone else's, yet he still bent to his more sinister side. Yet, hope still remains, as your epic ending stated.

Your comic's finale did not posess the humor that is so amusingly prevalent on these forums...but I found myself not caring a bit. This fine piece was melancholy, yet entertaining; dramatic, yet realistic. I applaud your masterful work, and find myself with only one remaining question: What do you plan to do next?

Wow... Pretty much all I can say is wow! That was, to put it simply, one of the best LEGO comics I've read to date! And boy, I've read a lot! The story was compelling, the character’s personalities are believable, the story gripping, just amazing!

Oh, and Joseph's hat, in the last few frames, is superb!

God...

...Damn.

That was more freaking amazing than I thought it could have been. I underestimated you, Blue. I loved that. DID NOT, expect him to die like that. Totally didn't see it coming...

Now this leaves me eagerly awaiting that next project of yours. Should be awesome. :D

Loved it, I haven't been commenting much lately but I've been watching. I'm actually probably going to say this is your best work yet. The last dialogue was great, I'd love to see a brickfilm of this, however unlikely.
My comic, which I'd appreciate you reading:

That. Was. Amazing.

And ridiculously depressing. :( Well. I guess after Est. 62 had it's happy ending and Smileville was less depressing then it could have been, you really had to let free the bloodthirsty monster. :P

I'm glad that the ending has been well-received. Ending it the way it dead was obviously a risk, given that all the remaining living characters are left completely unaccounted for in terms of plot closure. :P There was originally going to be an epilogue after it which would've given more closure, but it also made the ending much worse. For one, it felt tacked on. Two, it would have ruined the driving question that Strangway asks at the very end. In a world where morals are increasingly optional, does doing the right thing pay?

Needless to say, showing whether or not the characters do the right thing in the end and the consequences of their choices renders this question completely moot. But as long as the screwed-up, troubled cast of characters still has the possibility of redemption without confirming it, then it allows you to come to your own conclusions.

So yeah, that about wraps up what I have to say about Black Thursday. Hope you enjoyed it. ;) I won't call in anybody to lock this yet. I figure I'll leave more time for comments.

Wow, great job with the ending, completely threw me off gaurd. Then again, that was on purpose, so that shouldn't surprise me.

After rereading, I noticed Cruz didn't die on-camera, so at least one person knows the truth. Maybe there's still hope for the city after all. Or maybe he got shot behind the scenes in typical Blue fashion. :P

One word: Wow. I'm really impressed with this comic. Definitely your best work yet, and I love the ending. Very bitter-sweet.

As usual, everybody good dies, but this time the bad guy won... Or was he the bad guy? Maybe he was just Chaotic Good...

You definitely stuck to Film Noir genre norms, which I'm pleased you did. The flashbacks bringing everything together was also very good.

Everything in the comic, everything, was thought out exceedingly well. Nothing, not a single line of dialog, was put in just for the sake of it. It all had relevance to the plot.

Overall, very, very impressive, easily one of the, if not THE best comics on the forums (including mine :P). In fact, I doubt I could get close to making a comic this good. Kudos, JL.

Now, JL, go make another comic. :P

Yes, as far as you know, Cruz is still alive. Donnelly, the casino owner, also knows everything and is alive.

Wow, thank you so much for the praise. I'm glad that you enjoyed it, (and that you're back to say that you enjoyed it :D ). Welcome back, buddy.

Oh, and I will be making another comic soon. Not that I'm going to say anything about that... :whistling:

Yeah... That wasn't intentional, naming him after you. In actuality, it's a reference to The Black Donnellys, a great (but sadly short-lived) show about Irish gangsters in New York City. They're not scumbags. Criminals. But scumbags, no.

Besides, even a character like the casino owner I don't like to think of as a scumbag. At least not a complete scumbag. Just somebody living in hard times trying to make a living through morally gray means.

So Jociva kept bugging me and recommending that I read this entire comic through to the end. I finally did, just to humor him, and now here I am... with mixed feelings, too. Of course, the comic isn’t without faults. Joseph’s magical ability to smoke in the pouring rain being my main complaint, but nearly all the faults can be overlooked through close inspection of a story well-written. Because, really, that was a very good story. And while I find myself rather disappointed that Joseph died, and even more so as to Damon being shot, I still think it was a excellent comic. Great work, Blue! It certainly was exceptional.
