I have no idea what to say about Death Stranding because it's completely inscrutable, but it looks incredible and I love it and I need it now and I don't want to wait for 2021 for it to actually come out but I will anyway.

Here's the Bayo 3 teaser:

EDIT - Norman Reedus said "Did you like it" after the Death Stranding footage. Is this memes?

EDIT - So the show is actually still going. I thought they'd end on Death Stranding, but now they have to come up with another big thing to end on, right? I think you guys know what I'm thinking...

EDIT - Lance Reddick is here! He's just given the Best Student Game award to an Australian guy, and it's always so weird when my ears are so used to hearing American accents and suddenly one of my own countrymen starts talking and it feels like a foreign language :P

EDIT - The developer of Brothers and A Way Out is way too intense and Geoff had to cut him off mid-monologue.

EDIT - You guys, this show isn't ending. We're at the two hour mark and they're still saying there's way more to come. Geoff has somehow put together the best video game show of the year and IT'S NOT OVER YET (SNAKE)!

They had a new trailer for Dreams (the PS4 game from the Little Big Planet people), which I honestly thought might have been canceled, and now they're doing a mini-documentary thing about Andrew House.

EDIT - Hellblade wins best... story, I think? I tuned out a bit, and then the ridiculous haircut that the Ninja Theory guy is sporting is kind of drowning out everything else here; he's gone full Jean-Baptiste Emmanuel Zorg. Remember when he made them give Dante his own haircut in the DMC reboot?

Now Andy Serkis is here?

What is this thing?

EDIT - He's presenting the Best Performance award, which is kind of rich coming from a ham like him. The Hellblade lady wins.

EDIT - They're talking about something called GTFO, which I think was some kind of multiplayer FPS thing. I'll be honest, I was not paying any attention to it.

Bayonetta 3, you guys. How did that just come out of nowhere? I didn't know joy could still exist in the world.

EDIT - Ed Boon, of all people, is here presenting Best Game Direction to the guy who did Breath of the Wild (which also wins Best Action/Adventure). His translator is way too tall and he has to stoop to reach the microphone, but they do at least have matching dorky haircuts.

Now there's a new trailer for Metro Exodus.

Just Game of the Year to go now, and hopefully one last reveal of you-know-what. They've got a live orchestra playing what I understand to be music from Overwatch right now.

EDIT - This is so good. The orchestra is doing a medley of songs from each of the GOTY contenders, ending on a woman in a red dress scurrying out on stage for a live vocal performance of Jump Up Super Star! (She was lip-syncing, but I'll still take it.)

Breath of the Wild wins GOTY. These guys are adorable. Eiji Aonuma started his speech with "SANKYUUU AMERICA!"

EDIT - They didn't do a 'one more thing'. No DMCV. BUT IT'S DEFINITELY GOING TO BE AT PSX!

For realsies, the DMCV rumour always said that the game's reveal has been pushed back to E3 2018, so that's what I'm really getting my hopes up for, but I still have to get hype for all major conferences just in case. It's probably not going to be at PSX, either, but that's not going to stop me from getting UNREASONABLY SUPER HYPED ANYWAY!

And, hey, shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars. Who would ever have thought we'd get BAY. OH. NETTA. THREE!?

PSX is just about 22 hours away, btw. Sony's been trying to downplay it, citing that they played their hand at the Paris Games Show and PSX is going to be a lower profile thing. It seems like they're mostly doing panels, but there is a keynote sort of thing that they're going to livestream. I don't really know what to expect, but YOU KNOW WHAT MIGHT BE THERE? DEVIL MAY CRY V oh God I have a problem.

Here's the tease for the new From Software game, anyway:

I'm scared to ever play a DMC game, in case I turn into Ocelot. 😀
Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.
Except cancelling Firefly. Because that's just not cool.

Once you witness the soul-searing glory that is Devil May Cry, nothing else will ever match up.

OK, TROOPERS, PSX is starting in about half an hour. Hopefully we'll see some more from Ghosts of Tsushima, a bit of The Last of Us 2, maybe even a proper reveal of whatever that From Software thing was last night. And maybe Devil May Cry V, of course.

Ocey, my internet sucks too hard to live stream at night much anymore. Especially while other people are using it.

I'm relying solely on you to at least mention, just subtly, if they announce DMC5 there tonight. Because I have to know. Think you can do that for me? Think you won't, y'know, overlook it or forget?

Wolfie, for you, I will make sure to assume a thoroughly uncharacteristic level of hype if they announce this... 'DMC5', did you say? It sounds interesting.

Shaun Layden, the guy who looks like the bad guy from Equilibrium, is sitting on a couch bantering with another guy. He's wearing a shirt with some kind of logo on it under a jacket. All that's peaking out is the top of a white circle; what could it be?

EDIT - So this whole thing is a little bit unbearable. It's very pretend-casual, like "Let's bring out the developer of this game and have a totally definitely not at all scripted and rehearsed conversation with him!". The God of War guy says the game's going to be forty hours long, which sounds insane.

EDIT - God of War passed with no new footage, not even a release date, and now they're moving onto Dreams, so I might be relegating this one to background noise while I do more important things. Like my daily hours of fantasising about DMC5.

EDIT - There's a new guy out there, but I don't care enough about who he is to unmute the stream. Nothing's happening. I'm wondering if this is Sony trying to do a Nintendo Treehouse stream and forgetting that they still have gameplay footage on the Treehouse streams.

Wait, the new guy's picked up a controller. AND HE'S PLAYING THE DAVID CAGE GAME! Oh man, you got me, Sony. Back to mute again.

EDIT - Audience is going wild...

From front to back, it's a perfect spectrum of pretending to care. Tongue-in-cheek polite applause -> reluctant clapping -> three claps and back to crossed arms -> not even bothering to clap -> not even looking up from phone.

EDIT - Oh wait, they're showing trailers. A new one for Soul Calibur 6.

No, wait, I think this is just Monster Hunter. God, my heart was pounding for a moment :P

EDIT - Now they're just showing the same Death Stranding scene from yesterday. All eight minutes of it. I mean, I'll watch it again, of course, but where's my new hotness, bruv?

EDIT - Kojima's here and he's got that weird robo arm thing on his shoulder from the Death Stranding footage!

EDIT - Layden's revealed the thing on his shirt: it's Sir Daniel Fortescue's grave. It looks like they're remaking the Medievil games for PS4 like they did with Crash.

EDIT - It seems like that's it for the main show, and now they're going to do panels or something. Oh God he said that Greg Miller is coming up next. I'm out. What an absolute waste of time. Don't do this again next year, Sony.

At this point I feel like DMCV is going to be Ocelot's version of Half Life 3.

It's 2018, you guys! Who feels like some VIDEO GAME NEWS!?

Amazon has listed 18 new Nintendo Switch game placeholder entries on their store, ahead of the all-but-confirmed January Nintendo Direct. And keep in mind that Amazon already has pages up for every currently-announced Switch game, even the ones like Pokemon and Metroid Prime 4 that are probably still years away. EIGHTEEN unannounced games! Granted, some of those listings could just be Collector's Editions of other ones, but still. We eatin', boyeeeeez. The Wonderful 102 coming in 3... 2...

So it looks like we've got:

- The World Ends With You coming to Switch, reworked to play on one 16:9 screen and with some kind of new story content

- Kirby Star Allies is coming on March 16th

- Switch ports for Hyrule Warriors and Dankey Kang Country Tropical Freeze

- A new Mario Tennis called Aces, with a story mode

- DLC for Mario Odyssey (free, Luigi) and Mario + Rabbids (paid, Dankey Kang)

- Dark Souls Remastered is coming to Switch:

(picture unrelated)

I hope we eventually see all the notable Wii U exclusives make their way over to the Switch. It's a an easy way for Nintendo to keep a steady supply of games coming, and a great way for the vast majority of the human race to play those games because nobody bought a Wii U. I'm definitely rebuying Bayonetta 2 on Switch, and as soon as they announce a port of The Wonderful 101 I'll probably be ready to get rid of my Wii U once and for all.

In other news:

- FFXII Remastered is coming to PC on February 1st

- Assassin's Creed Rogue Remastered is official, coming March 20th

Doin's are a'transpirin' in the world of video games. First up, Nintendo has announced the next step in their plan to rule the world, in the form of Nintendo Labo:

It's obviously aimed at a younger audience than your average Switch game (which hasn't stopped the internet's infinite supply of manbabies complaining, of course, but let's not talk about that), and I think it looks amazing. My heart swells with the thought of my non-existent child romping around the room in a cardboard robot suit I helped them build. What an absolutely darling thing, y'know?

Secondly, things are stirring in the realm of Capcom's Resident Evil 2 remake. The 20th anniversary of the game's original release is mere days away, and Capcom's R&D Dev Team 1 (the people who are supposed to be making the game) have just posted a cryptic photo featuring a typewriter and one of the mysterious mannequin hands from the RE7 demo.

Thirdly, look at this neat-looking gameplay from Platinum's upcoming Granblue Fantasy action RPG:

I still don't know the first thing about Granblue Fantasy, other than it's apparently a huge Japanese mobile game thing, but I'm buying this bad boy.

EDIT - Sony is straight up making Amiibos now:

I would totally buy an Aloy or a Kazuma Kiryu.

I discovered this today:

Even though I want to despise this game, I can't deny that it looks cool. :P

Maybe the father-son bonding story will blind everyone to the continuing story of an angry white man destroying everything cool about Norse Mythology.

Funny, I'm having the same reaction to Metal Gear Survive.

Because if it didn't have the Metal Gear name slapped onto it and was instead a new, standalone IP, it could be something I actually wanted.  From the simple fact of it looking like it takes the concept of what it is trying to be and does it well in the Fox Engine, it could be a game to look forward too.

But nope, Konami can't have new IPs.  They need to keep trying to give Kojima the bird and say "See, we can make Metal Gear games without you".

I thought this was pretty neat: First-party Microsoft games are going to be free, day one, with the Xbox Game Pass, which is their equivalent of the EA Access Vault, i.e. video game Netflix. The first game will be Sea of Thieves in March, with State of Decay 2 and Crackdown 3 confirmed coming in the future. They also say that their next Halo, Forza and Gears of Wars will follow the same pattern, which is pretty remarkable. Game Pass is $10 a month, so it seems like a no-brainer; as long as you know you're going to buy two first-party XB1 games a year it pays for itself. I guess you could even just subscribe for one month at a time and play your $60 for a whole month for only $10 if you wanted. I'd probably blast through a new Halo campaign for $10 on day one.

Crystal Dynamics' game based on The Avengers is being developed by "Veterans from Naughty Dog, Visceral Games, Monolith, Sledgehammer Games and More", which sounds great. What sounds less great is:

“As development progresses, our studio continues to grow. The tremendous progress we’ve made on The Avengers project further drives us toward our goal of crafting something all Marvel fans will be proud of, and will play for years to come. We can’t wait to show you what we mean in the future.”

I don't want to be a Debbie Downer and immediately jump to the worst conclusion, but given the current video game climate, that sounds a whole lot like a Destiny-style Games as a Service infinite grind never-ending loot-box-'em-up to me. I swear to God if they're just making a first person shooter set in the Avengers universe where you don't actually play as an Avenger...

Finally, there's a website up for the Bayonetta Switch ports, with a few videos (not really HQ enough to spot any graphical or performance differences from the Wii U versions), and some information on Amiibo support (sounds like unlockable themed costumes with the Bayonetta ones and the bigger Nintendo characters, with a few unlockable weapons, too). Hopefully we'll see some more details closer to release (though I can't pretend I'm not buying these no matter what :P).

EDIT - Huh. Epic is shutting down Paragon on April 26th, and giving every player a full refund of their purchase price and any microtransactions they've bought.

After careful consideration, and many difficult internal debates, we feel there isn’t a clear path for us to grow Paragon into a MOBA that retains enough players to be sustainable.
We didn’t execute well enough to deliver on the promise of Paragon. We have failed you -- despite the team’s incredibly hard work -- and we’re sorry.
To try to make this right, Epic is offering a full refund to every Paragon player for every purchase on any platform. This refund will come directly from Epic rather than your platform provider.

Wow. That's pretty amazing, to be honest. I can't say I really heard much about this game at all, but I never thought it was in that much trouble.

Look. Take this with a grain of salt because it's rumor milling, but...uh...

Seems like Microsoft might be mulling it's Exclusives problem...to the tune of Buying PUBG, EA and Valve.

Let me repeat that. If the rumors are true, Microsoft is going to attempt to buy EA and Valve.

Oh, and I guess PUBG as well. But whatever.
