#487249 ZONE - Castle Greywatch (A Dying Breed - START)

Posted by Ambad on 29 May 2018 - 05:27 PM

While it was usually a bittersweet homecoming to return to Castle Greywatch, the walk up today had put an exceptionally sour taste in her mouth. Normally she'd only have to mourn the number they'd lost to the realities of the work they did. Today, though... they had deserters. And spying Brennus as she walked in, Yggmindl had a mind to find out why.

"Brennus!" She hollered across the great hall, her voice somehow friendly, suspicious, and disappointed all at once, in a way that could be mistaken for almost motherly, "Just what in all the hells happened that made all those sad folks I passed on my way in decide to derelict their duty?"

Derp... I made a character and forgot to post here to officially sign-up. I'd like to throw Yggmindl Stonecracker into the mix.

#487222 Yggmindl Stonecracker

Posted by Ambad on 26 May 2018 - 09:29 PM

41371273785_3cec57eb86_c.jpg

Full Name: Yggmindl Stonecracker of Boulderpile
Aliases: Yggy

Sex: Female
Race: Mountain Dwarf
Birthplace: Boulderpile Quarry Township, southern edge of the Blackrock Foothills

Affinity: Air
Deity: Odin
Faction: Venatori

Talents: Education (Old Achaean and High Imperial), Monster Lore, Runic Lore, Marksmanship, Dwarven Blacksmithing

Attributes
Strength: 5
Agility: 5
Constitution: 7
Perception: 7
Intelligence: 8
Spirit: 5
Luck: 6

Appearance: Short, stocky, and sturdy, Yggmindl is just about the epitome of her race. The only things that really stand out are her blonde hair and steely gray eyes, and even those aren't terribly uncommon among mountain dwarves. Her youthful face belies her age; although she isn't terribly old by dwarven standards, Yggmindl is still much older than most humans could ever hope to live. Apart from the normal scars one would expect on a Venator, Yggmindl's only other distinguishing mark is a tattoo on her right cheek.

Inventory:
  • 1 set of deepsilver chain bracers
  • 1 set of dwarven steel pauldrons
  • 1 set of dwarven steel faulds
  • 1 leather armor harness
  • 1 set of simple clothing
  • 1 steel handaxe of dwarven make
  • 1 heavy crossbow of dwarven make
  • 20 iron-headed crossbow bolts
  • 5 silver-headed crossbow bolts
  • 3 runic-etched crossbow bolts of fire
  • 3 runic-etched crossbow bolts of lightning
  • 3 runic-etched crossbow bolts of ice
  • 1 silver dagger, self made
  • 1 time faded and tattered blue cloak
  • 1 silver Venator brooch polished brightly
  • Flint and tinder
  • Rune etching supplies
  • 3 clean bandages
  • 2 healing ointment
  • 2 sense-enhancing potions
  • 1 strength-enhancing potion
  • 1 anti-lycanthropy potion
  • Water and rations

Biography: Most Venators know of Yggmindl from the roles she plays around the Castle. She is one of the very few who know much of anything about runes, and thus is usually the one to be consulted. While she isn't eager to share her knowledge, since runes can be very dangerous, she does put her experience to use making runestones for Venatori to use in the field. She spent time learning the older languages of the Empire in order to further her quest for more runic knowledge by scouring the texts they may have once translated that have since been lost to Dwarvenkind. It tends to come in handy when they run into artifacts in older parts of the castle, too. Most of her time at Castle Greywatch, however, is spent helping the smiths there. Her skills with the forge are quite useful, especially when it comes to working with the silver weapons that Venators use, and properly repairing thier deepsilver mail if ever it is damaged, something most other smiths must resort to doing by replacing the broken links with a weaker metal. Yggmindl also helps with training new recruits, especially during combat and endurance trials. She has had many partners in the past, including taking some newbies on their first string of hunts, as well as pairing with more experienced hunters to pursue more dangerous quary. Recently, though, she has been focused more on matters back at home in the Blackrock Foothills, and spends a lot of time away and alone...

Campaign History: N/A

Relationships: Has historically taught many Venators the basics of runestone use and safety. Also teaches and advises Venator smiths on their craft.

#486893 Set Review: ENLIGHTEN War of Glory "Dwarf Secret Weapon"!

Posted by Ambad on 27 March 2018 - 07:47 PM

I've seen a lot of these where I thought the same thing about the minifig accessories, and I wish they just... sold the figs as collectibles, since that's all I'm really interested in are the armors, weapons, and hair pieces... That said, I wish Lego would look at some of the sets these guys make and do a nice, plain fantasy castle line. No flashy technology gimicks or crazy Ninjago color scheme. I'm not saying it has to be bland classic castle... they can throw in cool monsters, like this guy:

Heck, make a little faction of monster hunters within the line up. Have many factions... I want a coven of witches, a kingdom of elves, a horde of orcs and goblins, a mountain fortress of dwarves... Although, speaking of, I get all my moving dwarf leg needs met by Brick Fortress. Super reasonable prices for awesome little legs that actually come really, really close to LEGO quality, IMO.

#484869 ZONE - The Skaldsong Tavern ((Delving Too Deep - START))

Posted by Ambad on 16 June 2017 - 12:02 PM

All this talk of demons and bloodbaths seemed to be giving Dylan pause, at least for a few moments. The young man listened and watched as the others conversed and signed the document and then went back to arguing more about demons and bloodshed, as well as what route to take...

"Hey now, how do we even know these demons are still there?" He asked the Templar and the Northwoman, "What would make them stick around after all the dwarves were gone? Surely they'd have gone and found something else to do by now, rather than just sit around in some Dwarven ruins, right? Would they even care about the treasure? What good is gold to a demon?"

He shrugged and shook his head, "I'm just saying, we won't know anything for sure until we get there. And if people wanna abandon ship then, well, at least they'll have made the trip to get there more interesting, right?" Dylan looked around the tavern at the plethora of adventurers, "Which also brings me to the subject of our route... Is there any great rush for us to get there? I'm not averse to tromping through the wilds to get there, but if time isn't the most pressing issue, wouldn't it be better to take a route that won't wear us down and drain all our supplies? I think the route to the North is the most ideal, since it'll allow us to travel in relative safety, stay in towns some of the nights, and resupply as often as we really need. Sure, it may be the longest in distance, but the easier traveling of roads, without all the work of hacking through brush and the like, might still make it reasonably quick."

"Not that I have any problem with the Imperial route, either." He was quick to clarify with a casual shrug, "It just doesn't give us quite as many opportunities to escape sleeping on the ground and restock on rations and whatnot."

Fortune Hunter Pack
  • 1 light set of leather armor
  • 1 full set of simple yet dashing clothing
  • 1 brown traveling cloak
  • 1 iron hatchet
  • 1 torch
  • 1 small knife
  • 1 map of trade routes
  • 1 mostly clean bandage

  • Water and rations
+ Fancy steel saber of decent make, kept sheathed at his side almost always. Claims he got it from a noble whose life he saved.
+ Pouch full of spices, acquired on his journeys. While he isn't a gifted cook, he likes to share them - very sparingly - with traveling compainions.
+ Old, pitted star of Astra, missing one of the points, but clearly very sentimental, worn proudly around his neck.

Biography: Born and raised on the road as part of a traveling merchant caravan, Dylan has never had time to settle in one place long enough to establish roots. Instead, he is incredibly friendly and outgoing towards everyone he meets, attempting to make friends - or at least customers - out of everyone. Throughout his youth, he served the caravan in any way he could, starting off as a runner for older merchants, and graduating to a money handler and eventual commerce envoy, sent as part of a group into towns to negotiate market space and taxes for the caravan before they entered the city. Now, though, life finds him on a pilgrimage away from that role, going out into the world to make a name for himself, and hopefully bring back something of value to his ever-moving home.

#484175 Next Errant Campaign

Posted by Ambad on 27 April 2017 - 07:04 PM

There's a lot of really awesome things that have the potential to happen, so it's hard to narrow anything down, especially when my personal preferences aren't strongly biased towards any one direction. I think it would be fun to try out an entirely new group, but it can also be really fun to roleplay someone trying to fit in to an established party. I'm down for a heavily regulated campaign where all the characters are of one specific race or creed or whathaveyou, or one that's a bit less focused, or even something wild and crazy and ridiculous. They all have their merits, and each can be fun in their own way... I think it will boil down to what you are most comfortable and motivated to run, and what other people want to play.

As far as the character creation system, and the guidelines and that sort of stuff, I think if you plan to incorporate any of that into the next RP, that it would be wise to get it all in place first and give people a chance to read it and use it, rather than trying to shift gears later on... You could end up with new characters joining who are built in a different way that makes them difficult to integrate with the other characters already in the campaign... Even minor differences in how skills are used/assigned, or how HP works, can be enough to tip the scales. Just saying, make changes in the down-time and then go forward, rather than try to change while it's running.

While I voted for D&D Pub Party, I'm open to anything. It'd be neat to play a group of dwarves on a mission through the underdark, or some elves going on a journey to reclaim some sacred artifact or another. A Venatori campaign would be cool. Or a Beastfolk group trying to escape some kind of impending doom, be it an Imperial invasion or a natural disaster. Or maybe something that even goes above a certain culture or race, like a trade consortium outfitting an expedition to try and find a passable trail through the Jagged Edge to import new and extremely rare goods, and also as an avenue for export to make more profits. Or similarly, a shipping fleet sending a heavily armed vessel out into an uncharted area to find a safe passage around some non-friendly islands or something. There's just so many neat things that could be done in Wulfgard that it's kind of hard to decide on anything to go for now when it's all so tempting!

I'm cool with anything for character creation. I do feel that the current system makes characters focused in a way that can be a double-edged sword... If there was some way to trade points around so that an older character can have more skills at the cost of physical attributes, or for a character with lower intelligence to learn more non-knowledge related skills... I dunno how to put it properly, but I know I've had character concepts that wouldn't be over-powered but were impossible to make, and I've made characters on paper that would be very min-maxy without a lot of downsides for the player... But I do feel the current system is functional, and that any changes to it should be carefully considered and possibly tested out by giving players a challenge to see if they can break it... Some play-testing, if you will.

And finally, I'm also cool with any region, especially places we haven't been before, or seeing places in a light that we haven't done. I voted for the South, since it sparks my imagination slightly more, but all the places are unique and diverse in their own ways, and there's all sorts of fun that can be had anywhere.

Mostly, I'm just interested and excited to get back into Errant, and to RP with seasoned pros and noobs alike.

Also, congrats on being Brick Warriors' MOC of the Week

#483025 General LEGO Discussion

Posted by Ambad on 22 February 2017 - 03:46 PM

One of the local Walmarts puts all their discounted and clearance stuff in one big shambles of a section, and the Lego frequently gets buried so long that it gets discounted a second time. I've seen $90 Ninjago sets going for as low as $30, which at that point is just a great deal for the parts.

#482788 ZONE - Caiden's Encampment (cave in the Jagged Edge)

Posted by Ambad on 12 February 2017 - 12:05 AM

"Caiden Voros, Venator," he replied. "I'm just doing my job."

"I've met Venators who'd argue you're going well beyond the bounds of your job," D'naaku managed to shoot back, though what unfeathered flesh was exposed paled at Caiden's touch, "But I want you to know, I am very grateful that you feel such a strong sense of duty, though... I can tell that isn't all you feel strongly." The avian checked their surroundings to make sure the others were preoccupied enough not to overhear as he added, more quietly, "I saw what the eagle saw, Caiden. Your secret is safe with me as long as I remain convinced you pose no danger to any here who don't earn it."

He retracted his arm, placing it lower on his shamanic staff, leaning on the glorified stick for support as he smiled a wise old smile, and continued at his normal volume, "Now, what brings someone like you out here into these mountains? And what's the story with that little fey friend of yours?"
