#488065 The Video Game News Thread

Well next-generation is gonna be bottom line 10 Tflops as a minimum bar well except for Nintendo. Well one alleged rumor stats ps5 has close to 12 Tflops. That alone could offer a major upgrade visually that has not been seen before. There are a lot of rumors about upgrading the cpu to feature 12 threads and 8 cores. Which would mean part of the CPU would be bigger than the cell phone sized cpu cores. Both Scarlett and PS5 could be pretty massive powerhouse consoles.

5G wireless, 128 GB Blu Ray standard.

Sony is skipping E3 entirely just to get an edge on knowing what Xbox Scarlett might feature I believe so that they can make adjustments to be more powerful. The baseline specs are set, but adjustments can be made. The rumors point at mid 2019, but out of the 12 months that's June/July. Not long after E3 2019. I believe if they do an early reveal in 2019 they won't speak about the specs. Just give out a glimpse of PS5 games and a date. Both PS5 and Scarlett should have some early alpha dev kits out there in the wild. Microsoft has bought itself a nice collection of studios to build a set of first party exclusive titles.

Well I'm calling it now. Next-gen begins in 2020. Sony and Microsoft have thrown their cards on the table. Expect 100 GB games in 2020. Not a joke. Next-gen will be at E3 2019.

Microsoft did a great job focusing on games and even promises hardware in the future.

Sony didn't mention new hardware at all and while 90 percent of their studios having projects under wraps. We saw 4 Sony ips right? Well they have like 15 studios with multiple teams inside some studios. Guestimate, but something like 10 to 15 or so.

Although oddly less than 24 hours ago someone slipped up. It's now all over the Internet that Sony has a Zen+ cpu + AMD Navi powered SoC aiming at 2020 that soaked up the Vega Resources to develop with Sony giving direction on Navi development of their special order Soc. Sony is playing sneaky. Seems to be intentionally leaked.

Sony did okay. It's titles are golden for sure. I love samurai and Re2 and Last of Us. I feel like they held back by a large margin.

EA didn't even talk about Battlefield. They just said look and walked away. What happened to all that enthusiasm towards 64 player chaos they had last year. They seriously even fixed alot of the bad of BF1 from what I read.

EA loses the Star Wars license in 2023. They might have enough time for 1 or 2 next-gen titles. They have absolutely failed with everything they made with it though so far. Kotor MMO bombed at launch. Battlefront launch was a dud. Battlefront 2 well you know.

Ubisoft did it's thing. Left Watch Dogs 3 at home.

Nintendo did it's thing. Seems fun and quirky as always Nintendo. Left Metroid 4 behind for some reason.

I now wonder if Sony has those two. The Avengers game and the FFVII remake at their show later. Then again this is Square Enix. They take 5 years minimum to build a game in house. :P

I'm definitely expecting Watch Dogs 3 from Ubisoft and lengthy talking about the Division 2.

Hmm so far my list of next-generation games has 3 titles. I expect Cyberpunk, Elder Scrolls, and Starfield to be at least 2 years away.

I expect Sony to feature some decent surprises as well.

Should be interesting. There is even a rumor of a new Duke Nukem game at Microsofts conference. Could be a reasonable reason for Borderlands 3 to hold back on getting any E3 spotlight.

Bethesda could have Starfield that mystical space rpg title that people have been wondering about.

EA Motives new ip should be almost ready to show off. Or maybe a new Dragon Age.

I don't know what EA has planned for Star Wars. I doubt they have much of anything to show off in that department, but they might.

Sega is rumored to be developing Vanquish 2 as a timed Xbox exclusive.

Ubisoft undoubtedly has Watch Dogs 3. 1 and 2 are probably the best games of online hide and seek.

Square also has that Avengers game under wraps.

I expect increasing 3rd party support on Switch at E3 this year. That and a N 64 classic.

Sony could feature Horizon 2 or Killzone as well.

WB Neatherealm studio has to have Mortal Kombat 11 as well. Since injustice 2 was released awhile back.

Devil May Cry 5 seems like a 200 percent chance to be revealed I believe. Every thing else that has been leaked seems to be legitimate.

Bethesda has at least 4-6 titles. Probably some type of vr thing.

I expect Sony to have Capcom if anywhere.

I'm gonna have to look up some of the Microsoft stuff. :P I'm 99.9 % sure that most of Microsofts show is multi platform. Still though I will look up that stuff tomorrow.

Xero there are very conflicting rumors about a new Kotor game. The studio that works on star wars games at Bioware is assisting with Anthem. Not sure exactly what is going on there. :P

Actually 2K holds onto the Wrassling.

Warner Bros is also doing a daily stream for the next 3 days. Of its titles. Mostly Lego titles. I assume Shadow of War and Injustice 2 might be there as well.

Microsoft has a title from Square Enix/People Can Fly maybe to show off. Rumors say anyway.

Wolfenstien is pretty much confirmed to show up.

Also there is a rumored StarField game from Bethesda. Space stuff you know.

Not really surprised Switch isn't WiiU game compatible. Its strange though that so many games are claimed to be getting ported so easily to the system. I guess its just the core CPU design thing that is tripping up the idea. And well the no disc drive likely a reason Nintendo skipped over coding it even if it was possible to emulate.

1 Major third party plans to bring all its titles from PS4 over to Switch. Not sure if that's the current line up. Some type of Orange box kinda deal or just the future titles to come. :P

Cryengine might even be supported on Switch as well in the future revisions of the engine. There brand manager states they would like to see it on as many platforms as possible, but no comment just yet. And well they supported WiiU and even Android with a version of it so one can only suspect it is a possibility.

I expect a big unveiling in January/February/Early March for Switch details, games, and so on. Probably January as people will be rabidly awaiting for game news by then. Since there is no longer a NDA then its likely anything announced at VGX thing could include switch titles.

Mark Cenry talks about how you could just do two 16 Floating operations instead of 32 or putting two 16 floating point operations into 1 32-bit operation with PS4 Pro games and get 8.4 Tflops with PS4Pro in a long talk about Pro. Technically this is possibly true, but couldn't Scorpio do the same and get 12 Tflops? Possibly. I am not that deep into GPU operations. Sony also stated it still believes in generations. So PS5 will exist apparently after claiming they would never know if one was coming earlier months ago.

Cyberpunk 2077 could have seemless multiplayer

CD Projekt Red’s next game supposedly has more people working on it than The Witcher 3 ever did, however little else is known about Cyberpunk 2077 beyond its tabletop roots. Geralt’s last outing set the bar high with regards to open-world exploration, and it seems the Polish studio is keen to keep this momentum going, having applied for grants via the Polish GameINN programme for various technologies, including ‘City Creation’, ‘Animation Excellence’, ‘Cinematic Feel’, and ‘Seamless Multiplayer.’

As reported and translated by GamePressure, City Creation is a “complex technology for creating a huge living city, playable in real time, which (the technology) is based on rules, AI, and automation, as well as supports innovative processes and tools for making top-notch open-world games."

Seamless Multiplayer, on the other hand, is a “complex technology for making unique multiplayer gameplay mechanics, including the ability to search out for opponents, manage game session, replicate objects, as well as support for different game modes along with a unique set of dedicated tools." Animation Excellence and Cinematic Feel are likely more self-explanatory.

We contacted CD Projekt Red to confirm the veracity of the applications, to which the studio's Robert Malinowski replied: "We did apply, I can confirm that, yes. However, we wouldn't like to elaborate beyond what's already there."

Nascar Heat Evolution. Because. I just bought this. Why? Well I like stock car racing. And........40 player online with no cautions is going to be chaotic fun. I believe. Sadly they didn't put cautions into online. Likely due to building their code into a new engine.

Also Toxikk Launched. That old school shooter vibe.

Some of the view of the free version.

One more thing.

Armored Core is getting a NEW game.

Microsoft keeps halfing the effort in hopes for their own store to live. Steam is Dad to PC gamers. Microsoft store will never be invited back to the dinner table. It has left us out in the cold for too many years all alone. Steam adopted us. Steam cares.

Lawbreakers: Vanguard Class. This is like Doom/UT + Overwatch. Looks awesome. I am addicted to what I call tension FPS games.

Bioshock Collection Remastered. Releasing in Sept. Bioshock 1,2, 3. Worth a go if ya never played em.

Quake will be shown off at Quakecon. In case you guys didn't know. Sometime later this week.

Ubisoft talks about winning over the Wii Audience on NX. Talking about how NX will win casuals over. Kinda scary to see those words. Surprise titles from Ubisoft. I am thinking NOOO in my head. As I speculate 1000 gimmicks Nintendo could have come up with that Ubisoft is supporting now.

Ubisoft's new patch. Siege. Looks cool.

Digital Foundry has an in-depth article about the Nvidia Tegra chip that's powering the NX, too.

We'll have to get DeadFire in to tell us exactly what the Dragonball Z power level of this thing might be, but I'm thinking it's pretty safe to say that PS4/XB1 power is off the menu. I guess we just have to hope it's more powerful than the Wii U, though even that might be a bit much to ask for. It's the console/handheld hybrid that Iwata specifically said it wasn't going to be but we all kind of thought it would be anyway. At least we know it's going to play Zelda.

Tegra X1/Maxwell which is claimed to be in the dev kits could be at 1 Tflop depending on the mode used. If 16FP then 1 Tflop if 32FP then its 512 or so Gigaflops. 2nd one is probably most likely. It would still outrank WiiU if it used 32FP. Tegra X1 Chips aimed are aimed at 1 Tflop. Which if ya compare it to some rumors its possibly true. WiiU runs at 380 Gigaflops or so it is said to be its max potential. So this is at least twice as powerful and slightly below XB1's base model's 1.2 Tflops. To be a portable device its pretty impressive. If they had the time to put the newer gen Tegra chip in the system it would touch a little higher. NVIDIA is said to be revealing its Pascal based Tegra chip in August. Its rumored Nintendo is to reveal NX in September. Although some details of hints of the new Tegra chips from the Drive PX2 design that was shown off eariler for Self driving cars built by NVIDIA with the new Tegra chips suggest it could feature 6 cores and 4 Tflops per SoC. As PX2 has 2 New Tegra SoCs together with 8 Tflops and with 12 CPU cores. I doubt that the new wave of NVIDIA Tegra is in NX. Then again if you consider its possibly half that on 32FP instructions it could be possible seeing 2 Tflop Tegra. Although Its most likely the Tegra X1 design of a modified form with 512 Gigaflops up to 1 Tflops potential. Still its massive power for a portable. Nearly every game engine was tested for it when NVIDIA showed it off.

All of the rumors could technically be true. Depends on if its true that NX is just a portable on the go + home device. Or if say Nintendo has a second piece of hardware and NX Portable is just the evolution of Portable devices for now with some kinda new Home console later. NX line-up could feature a revised Home console too. You know how Microsoft has Scorpio, and Sony has Neo. Nintendo could have another box under wraps too. Lets keep that in the rumor box until they say anything though. Don't wanna get anyone's hopes up too high. Seems like an On the go thing would just suit the Portable crowd to me.

I am betting NX Portable has at least a couple of Cell Phone features. It wouldn't surprise me to see a mobile USB mini like charging port that works with cell phone chargers.

NX does actually have quite a list of supporters and potential developers.

There were some rumors that NX would have a portable launch early 2017 and a home console launch at the end of 2017. No one knows what is in the mind of Nintendo though. If there is a full scale console to go along side this portable system. It was said to have a docking station to load games up to the TV. Perhaps both the Docking station and the portable load off graphics together for a higher resolution. All of it is still hypothetical until Nintendo says this is what we have. They did patent something dealing with being a supplemental computing device. So some sort of hardware that works with existing hardware to improve game quality. Maybe NX Portable games dock to the Home console and get a 1080p upgrade. Similar to PSNeo/XBScorpio with 2 SDK development maybe Nintendo is doing that with its portable games where they all can be using both. An idea I suppose. Not quite sure their direction with it. Nintendo never talks specs so the hardware must be dissected at some point.
