Today I ran some numbers, just for my own amusement...
> In the last 10 years (2010-2020), there have been THREE new video games and ONE expansion pack based on Dungeons & Dragons.
> In the preceding 10 years (2000-2010), there were FOURTEEN new D&D video games AND FOURTEEN expansion packs.
I also ran the numbers for Star Wars. Not counting mobile/browser/educational games...
> in the 10 years since the fall of LucasArts (2010-2020), there have been about FOUR new Star Wars games released.
> In the preceding 10 years (2000-2010), under LucasArts, there were around TWENTY-SIX new games. And another 26 or so in the 10 years before that (1990-2000)!
That means that, in BOTH cases (D&D and SW), there were around SEVEN TIMES more games released between 2000-2010 as there were between 2010-2020. The numbers basically match: 4 vs. 26 or so.
I'm not even sure what particular point I'm trying to make with this, but it's interesting food for thought. Draw your own conclusions.
