#487871 Elemental Contest #3: EARTH

Posted by DragonJedi on 23 August 2018 - 12:00 PM

Congratulations, Dragon!
Hope this encourages you to do more Art in the future!

Congratulations to Dragon, Dalton, and all my fellow contestants, plus a big thank you to whomever was nice enough to vote for me!  (I didn't see the post about self-voting until after I'd already voted for Nightstalker's neat cave-in, so it wasn't me.  *shrug* )
Dalton had a really cool subject with that golem, and Dragon's color and lighting make it quite clear why he got the most votes.  What paint did you use, watercolor?  It gave a marvelous shading effect.

Thank you, guys! Congrats to the rest of you, and those were all amazing pieces!

Cappy, it was gouache (more of an opaque watercolor) with some touch-ups and lighting adjustment done in photoshop.

Here is my entry for the Earth elemental contest!

It could theoretically be set in Wulfgard, but probably is more just general fantasy illustration than anything else.

#487224 ZONE - Castle Greywatch (A Dying Breed - START)

Giving Araven's hand a firm shake, he replied, "Caiden Voros of Redfield." He gave Krystia a low nod, as well. "Pleasure to meet you both."

Krystia had smiled widely at Caiden’s statement, and it had not missed Araven’s notice.

"The pleasure is ours." she replied. Araven struggled to hide his exasperation.

"I'd second talking to Cristina first"Another Venator spoke up, this one a tiny elven woman with fiery auburn hair. "With so many gone missing, the last thing we want to do is go in blind."

She turned to Araven and Krystia: "I'm Hollí Emberleaf" she introduced herself. "You're welcome to join us!"

“Good to meet you, Hollí,” Araven replied. “I appreciate the invitation, and I’ll be happy to join you. I can’t speak for Krystia, but I’m sure she would be too.” His eyes darted towards Caiden at that. If she went with Caiden on this hunt, Araven would feel his ears burning the entire time.

Another woman appeared next to Krystia. She was easily the most beautiful person that Araven had ever seen. “Oh, Krystine, I’ve been looking all over for you!” She smiled widely. “I had some hunting techniques I wanted to show you!” She winked at the younger Venator.“Don’t worry gentlemen, I won’t be long~...” Brys added, flashing Caiden a warm grin as she whisked Krystia away from the group.

Araven wasn’t too worried at this point. Krystia could handle herself in most situations, unless, of course, Caiden Voros happened to be involoved.

Luckily, Agethar said something to break the silence left by Krystia’s departure. "Ye seem familiar wit' Dragon's Lair. Would ye mind sharing what ye know about it wit' us, or is it more of a...er, private matter?"

"It's not," Caiden replied. "I went there shortly after a long mission in Rognosst Swamp. I'm familiar with Cristina and I'm familiar with the region. It's a good city, ruled by the Drakes. And it's full of good people... all of whom respect their ruling family." His eternal scowl worsened just a tad. "It'd be best if we didn't mention Tom or what happened to him."

"That goes without sayin'." Agethar said.

Caiden shrugged. "Word spread fast after the people of Illikon learned the truth," he clarified. "To the Empire, Tom is dead. He has an empty grave in Illikon. He told his parents to bury him there if he ever fell in battle."

"But I'm surprised tha' 'is family has their own city," he continued "I always thought that th' Drakes lived in a Manor in Illikon."

"The Drakes are one of the Northwest's three major families under the Illikonis... each one rules their own city, and each one has a manor in Illikon." He shrugged. "Don't know much beyond that."

"Given your particular experience with the area, do you have any thoughts on what could have gotten Indigo and Darin?" Araven asked Caiden.

#486864 DragonJedi's D&D Drabbles

Posted by DragonJedi on 23 March 2018 - 09:38 AM

Hey guys! It's been a long time since I've posted some writing on here. I've recently been working on a short story that started originally as backstory for my current Dungeons and Dragons character, but I've worked further on for my Creative Writing Class.

Chapter One

Nephrus Heldir slinked his way through the streets of Rimecairn, his footsteps barely making a sound as they collided with the cobblestones beneath him. His cloak was wrapped tightly around his body, a sight not necessarily uncommon in town. He glanced around, his heart racing. He was the only one on the street, but he still kept both his wits and his sword about him. In this town, trouble could be around every turn.
He rounded the corner to encounter a dead end, surrounded by brick walls in all directions save the one that he came from. He crept up to the wall in the center, looking behind him once more before stepping back, taking a running leap. He pushed himself up the rest of the way, and launched himself over the wall. Nephrus landed in dive and rolled through the grass into the area beyond. Getting to his feet, Nephrus surveyed his new surroundings.
To say the least, the area was fancy. Trees and shrubbery filled the courtyard, each one neatly trimmed. The walls surrounding the courtyard, with the exception of the one Nephrus had just climbed, were excellently carved, featuring vaulted entryways and stained glass windows portraying scenes of warriors combating demons of the Nine Hells. It was part of an extensive estate, home to Qinorin Foreoak. The half-elven merchant was by far one of the richest men in Rimecairn, and one of the most secretive. Rumors told of countless riches gained from a decade of adventuring far over the Ozkari Mountain Range, in the Outlands. Nephrus intended to locate and pillage at least a small percentage of this fabled wealth.
Nephrus tiptoed across the grass, careful to avoid any fallen leaf or twig that could alert a guard or some other form of security to his presence. His footsteps glanced upon the flagstones, scarcely putting more weight on each step than a bird standing there would.  He kept close to the walls once inside, careful but confident in each step. Torchlight flickered from the sconces that lined each side of the halls, creating dancing shadows for Nephrus to cling to. Coming upon a flight of stairs going down, he crept down them, keeping to the shadows. They ended in a hallway that led to a wall adorned with an elaborate mosaic.
Bingo, Nephrus thought. A hall that leads only to Waukeen, it’s the only possible place it could be.
Walking up to the mosaic, Nephrus began to search for the way to open what must be a secret door, hidden in the hall. He looked closely at it, observing the every curve and divot of the mosaic’s tiles. After a moment of looking, he came upon a grouping of azure tiles in the eyes that were far further inset than the rest of the mosaic. Saying a silent prayer for good luck, he pushed on the tile cluster. Nephrus glared at the mosaic as nothing occurred. He stepped away, fuming. Before he could step further away, the wall beside the mosaic gave a loud creak as a column of bricks separated from another, swinging open slowly to reveal a cobweb-ridden doorway. Taking a deep breath, he stepped into the darkness.
The tunnel, even with Nephrus’ better-than-average vision, was dark as sin. He muttered a quick curse as his vision slowly adjusted to the darkness, leaving his vision a muddled grey color. The tunnel sloped down and down, each stairstep a crumbling trap that could break at the slightest misstep. Cobwebs lined the corners between the ceiling and walls, and mice skittered around the steps before diving into their holes. Nephrus continued down, a dagger held at the ready. In a vault hidden within a former adventurer’s home, there was no limit to the number of dangers that could be in his way.
Within a few minutes of sneaking around, the tunnel opened into a large alcove hewn from the limestone that Rimecairn was built upon. Nephrus’ eyes widened and his jaw hit the floor. Hanging on every wall were paintings and tapestries, ranging from centuries old to the recent years. The floors were scattered with piles of gold and gemstones, and chests filled to the brim with silver and gold. Sitting on a pedestal in the center of the alcove was a large sapphire, a deep azure in color with each facet of the gem. Nephrus approached the pedestal and stared at the gem. The sapphire was the objective of this burglary, and an expensive one at that. Nephrus was under a promise of twelve hundred gold pieces upon delivery of the sapphire.
Nephrus reached into the satchel that hung at his side and withdrew another gem, a near-exact copy of the sapphire but constructed of deep blue glass, beautiful but ultimately worthless. He held the copy next to the pedestal, with his other hand hovering over the original. Hesitating for just a second, he quickly switched the glass out with the gem. He stared into the gem as he held it, amazed that the switch had worked as smoothly as it did. His concentration on the sapphire was shaken with the floor beginning to shake as well. Treasures and relics fell to the floor with crashes and bangs, and dust began to drift down from the ceiling.
Nephrus swore and turned tail, running up the path he had come, dodging out of the way of fallen treasure and gold. He scampered up the stairs, nearly tripping several times over his own feet. He stormed into the hallway he came from, nearly running into the extended spearpoints of the Foreoak guards.
“In a rush?” One of the guard’s spat. “Hope you like a cell, horned scum.”

Gotta be honest, despite all of the fears that I had I'm starting to warm up to this movie. This picture of snowy Han and Chewie makes it better. That seems like the smuggling shenanigans that they'd get into.

Ooh, not bad! I especially like that shading style you use. ^^

However, I think just about all these guys are, uh, a tad disproportionate. At the very least I can tell their heads seem a little big on their bodies, but in a few cases (namely Caiella's) it looks like the arms are kinda long, too.

Your faces have some really nice details going, though, so definitely keep that up! Can't wait to see who else you draw :D

Thank you! Proportions are definitely a work in progress right now, but I'm on my way to getting those right! Caiella's are probably the worst, honestly. I'm glad that you like the styles and details!

Keeping with the schedule! Honestly most of these were done last week but I'm trying to get myself more organized and committed to a schedule.

First up, WyvernSith's Vishan Loneon

Next, my Dragon Age Inquisition character, Caiella Lavellan.

Next an elven mage

And finally, a Nordling warrior drawn purely digitally.

As always, comments and critiques welcome and appreciated!

Are we allowed to like Game of Thrones again?

I would say so. I'm in the process of binging the last two seasons in preparation.

#484873 Delving Too Deep OOC - Rules, Character List, and Chat

Posted by DragonJedi on 16 June 2017 - 05:56 PM

I think I'm going to pull Njarine out of this one in the post, as I've gotten busier. Just Elisario for this one will be best I think.

Never mind, I can keep up with this. Also, WyvernSith is getting back into somewhere with even cell signal tomorrow and then he can get a post up.

Biography: Elisario Khampale- a name known in many circles as a mercenary, a sword for hire, a bounty hunter. The boy was born in Tarmasq to a Khemeti scholar and his wife. His childhood couldn't be called pampered, but he was comfortable growing up. Eli was taught much, including how to read. However, he didn't care for scholarly studies and in his free time got involved with criminal activities, acting as an enforcer for various illicit activities. Before too long, Elisario was at the top of the list when it came to hired muscle. As people do, though, he got bored with just being the muscle for different criminals who viewed themselves as better. Unfortunately for them, they had bounties on them that most bounty hunters in the South had been scared to pursue. Elisario adapted his strategies of being the brawn and added in a little brain, cleaning up the streets and making a profit for himself. He has since moved on around the continent hunting down target after target and often bringing them to justice (or creating a need for justice).
