Uuuugh, just... why did they do this? Why does a studio synonymous with great singleplayer RPGs bet the farm on a loot shooter instead?
Same reason they made SWTOR. EA thinks they can shoehorn elements of the BioWare* Experience into online Live Service games and have the best of both worlds. They don't understand why singleplayer RPGs work.
Anyway, if I'm gonna be honest, I've been hoping Anthem was gonna flop ever since it was revealed. The sooner EA puts BioWare*'s corpse to rest the better, it's been dead since 2012. Let it rest, and we can go back to pretending ME2 was the last game they ever made.
PoE2 needs a lot more than a turn-based mode to save it, honestly.
My opinion of PoE1 has actually dramatically improved now that I actually finished it (the music is still bland and Avellone's characters are still obnoxious though) and the expansion, which was far better story-wise than the main game, but PoE2...oof. The loss of the NV writers in 2016 really shows. As critical as I am of Chris Avellone, I'd take him over...whatever the hell PoE2's writing is.
EDIT: I had a long rant about the game typed up here but I changed my mind about posting it. The tl;dr: The main story is pointless, the game feels tiny, the writing is peppered with...certain contemporary socio-political undertones, and the companions are annoying.
