#488276 The New! HALO Thread - Hosted by Spark

Also Halo 3 is a really nice-looking game that holds up really well in the Master Chief Collection. The specific shaders they use on the various metallic surfaces have a great look to them, and the absurd levels of early-360-gen bloom work really well. At least until you see one of the human characters. They all have these terrifying monster faces that glow like they're made of lightbulbs, and are the easiest way of telling that the game came out in 2007 :P

Ya don't say?

OH, also, you should totally download ODST for MCC Occy, it's only $5 or whatever that translates to in upside-down bucks.

The Didact is a cool villain...if they'd actually done anything with him.

Ultimately Halo 4's story is about Chief's efforts to save Cortana from dying... but you can't win every battle,

It's such a shame about Halo 5 pretty much ignoring all of that. Hopefully they put things back on track with Infinite.

#488245 What Are You Currently Playing?

Unlike Ocy it seems, I'm really enjoying Kingdom Hearts III speaking as someone who turned off the first game and never went back after that first gummi ship section.

Oh also Ocy, you have got to watch Red vs. Blue. Particularly Seasons 6-onwards. Starting with 8 they started using CG on top of the machinima and the results are best described if Halo suddenly acted as stylish as Devil May Cry.

The tentacle monster is the Gravemind, prime consciousness of the Flood, the very reason the Halos were built in the first place. At the time though it was more or less trapped on the ring you found it on, but saw opportunity when High Charity slipped in. So it attempted to play the long con by helping Chief and Arbs on their respective journeys while it was left alone to put the pieces in place to take over the space station, which happened midway through that level where the In Amber Clad jumped in and crashed into one of the buildings.

So now it had interstellar transport, and a certain AI stuck in its systems that has encyclopedic knowledge of everything there is to know...

Also, called it you wouldn't like Halo 2 as much. ;) Hope I'm right about 3 too.

EDIT: Oh and for clarification, you cannot actually kill the Gravemind.

It's consciousness resides on an altogether different plane of existence, emerging once enough biomass has been turned by the Flood infection.

The Flood itself is mindless without its Gravemind pulling the strings. This is what you saw in the first game. The Flood on Delta Halo have had eons to gather their strength and usher in its return since the Forerunners first fired the rings against it. The worst thing the Halo rings can do to it is destroy its body and all potential hosts living at the time. It'll simply ebb back into the ether and wait for the next round.

It's that reason why it's popular to theorize the Flood will one day return to the series in a big way.

In the allegorical sense, if the Forerunners are the Angels who have forsaken the dark and terrible mortal world for the Promised Land, the Gravemind is the Snake in the Garden of Eden.

Yup. That was the Halo experience, Ocy. The anniversary edition only had a new coat of paint. Halo 2 is gonna feel a little less nicer to play tbh, but more than makes up for it in bombastic story.

Halo 3 probably strikes the best feel between 2's bombastic story, and 1's general goodness to feel. Backtracking is far more minimal in the later games as well.

Halo 4 is...different. Don't let that scare you away. It's focused on telling you a much more personal tale, to the point that actual bullets and action aren't even really the point.

No joke, you could literally do just that. Xbox One and a game pass sub. You got access to all the exclusives. All 2 of them XD. But in seriousness

-Halo MCC (which is now fixed, and has CE, 2, 3, ODST, and 4 with CE and 2 remastered with new graphics)

-Halo 5 (bad story, but still very fun campaign, great multiplayer and custom games but no splitscreen so....monkey's paw)

-Sunset Overdrive (all the 90s you can handle and more.)

-Quantum Break (eehhhhhhhhh, but still, basically free)

-Forza Horizon 4 (ye boi, now we talking.)

-Super Lucky's Tale (asides from like the most inoffensive marketing ever and completely forgettable at that, still surprisingly fun if you're looking for a 90s platformer throwback)

-Entire Gears of War series (all very good games)

-Ryse (I mean, it's aight)

-State of Decay 1 and 2 (pretend 1 doesn't exist and enjoy 2. Not my kind of game, but very good management game.)

-Fable series

and that's just the exclusives. It's got tons of 3rd party support. Many of Bethesda's published games like Doom, Wolf TNO, Fallout 3/4, etc. are on there, Metro series, Tomb Raider, stuff from the 360 and even OG xbox days like Star Wars KOTOR

I can hold out hope. If Netflix is getting to do this, this means they might have some claim to the rights. If the ATLA remake is successful, it could fund a 3rd series as a netflix exclusive. They'd be crazy not to given how Voltron has gone for them.
