#445850 What Are You Currently Playing?

Posted by Yava on 06 June 2015 - 01:01 PM

Did anyone ever play Spectrobes? Now that I'm back home and have access to my Wii, I've been playing Spectrobes Origins for about an hour a day. It's great fun and IMO if they ever made an open world Pokemon game, they'd have to emulate spectrobes.

There's also two games for the DS as well.

Yeah I still have some of the cards from the first DS game

I've been trying to play Fallout 3 GOTY, but I'm seriously considering getting a refund from Steam because it just doesn't work. I'm reinstalling it to see if that fixes it but if it doesn't work I'm getting a refund.

It's funny that you've been playing Touhou stuff. So have I! Those along with a bunch of other shmups. I've been making a shmup for class and I've been playing a lot of shmups in class as "research" It's really fun.

I’ve been trying out Flash recently and one of the things I did was this.
It’s takes so long with a mouse though and I know I could better with a drawing tablet.

It's getting better. Valve have removed ratings from mods (unless you pay for it) and are now denying users access to discussion boards on payed mods. Skyrim's reputation took a hit as well, going from Overwhelmingly Positive to Very Positive. I wouldn't be surprised if they disabled the ratings/feedback system there as well.

As far as paying for user-generated content goes? Nah. Unless it's a total-conversion of the base game/significantly different from the vanilla game then it shouldn't really be allowed. That said, most of the modders I've associated with over the years are either doing it as a hobby or as a boost to university portfolios.

EDIT: Christ, it's funnier than I thought.

If you're playing a free version of a payed mod then you'll receive in-game pop-ups asking you to buy the payed version. Oh, and they've started taking down mods that accept donations outside of Steam.

It's just Valve trying to get even more of a monopoly than they already have. And now they're stopping people from seeing ratings on mods they haven't bought? This is messed up.

They should have made a prominent donation system for "content creators". The devs could still take a cut but that way it wouldn't destroy the mod community.

The Tenth “I don’t want to go”

And Danny Sexbang! (I spent a whole episode of Doctor Who looking for this because I didn't realize there was a search function for my own posts)

Life is Strange quickly became my favorite story-based game. It hooked me like Telltale's games always failed to, and the music is a huge part of that (and I love the characters)

A valkyrie... guy? It's all wrong. This is not possible. D: Also, why would a valkyrie be wearing Greek armor? :P

The drawings all look really great, though. Only now you've drawn a silly picture of Tom Cruise and you must draw a serious one. Like maybe one of him from The Last Samurai? Or... Mission: Impossible III? Or War of the Worlds? Or Minority Report? Or Top Gun? Or Oblivion? Or Mission: Impossible II? Or...  :enchanted:

Yeah he should devote the rest of his life drawing Tom Cruise! The world always needs more Tom Cruise.

By far my favorite thing about 40k is the art. I love the lore too and the game can be fun but the art is just so spectacular and perfectly captures the grandiosity of the Warhammer universe

In the first Metroid Prime, Samus was a hulking beast. Seeing her in cutscenes take up almost all the screen on my 40-in gaming TV really hit that fact home. She's an intimidating presence. The game made you feel that way too. Once you got a few of your toys back, monsters couldn't put a dent in you. Space Pirates could barely damage you, and it only took a few shots for you to take them down. You felt like a hunter that could truly take on an entire civilization single-handedly.

And Samus never once, spoke a word.

There are some characters in media that I think lose a lot of their appeal when they get "humanized." Samus is definitely one of them. I've only played a few Metroid games, so I may be completely off-base here, but a lot of her appeal is how she silently tackles whatever threat is thrown her way. She doesn't get scared. She isn't vulnerable. She is in control at all times, she is capable, and she can take care of herself with no help.

Strangely, I think Samus's lack of voice for most of her games has really contributed to that appeal. She appears as a cold, silent hunter that has a mission and will stop at nothing to complete it. In the games when she shows a bit of humanity, it's only a hint or two, and those small hints do wonders for her characterization. She's compelling because you know so little about her. Less is definitely more.

It's a bit too early for me to really think on this subject, but my point is that some characters lose their appeal when attempts are made to humanize them, especially when that humanization is done so poorly. The fact that Ridley can appear and Samus doesn't even bat an eye about it is just part of her character.

And yes, the fact that she is a woman is very important to all of this.

Also, Joe, you really do need to play Bayonetta. :)

Samus and the Master Chief are very similar in this aspect to me. While Chief does talk, it's always just short sentences about clarifying what he needs to do, saying he's going to take the Covenant down, he isn't afraid of anything. And even though they gave him a backstory, and even though it humanized him, it did it in a way that didn't give him a soft side. It showed that his soft side was gone.

"Hit the iron" is a phrase I've never heard anyone but The Rock use, and he actually says it word for word in Furious 7, which has me further convinced that he doesn't actually act in these movies. They just point a camera at him while he goes about his daily activities. Occasionally they'll stage a car chase or a fight scene near him, and he'll just react accordingly, because he is The Rock.

Supposedly he has a stunt double in these movies but I'm 99% sure that's the only time he acts in these movies. He acts as if he's a stunt double for himself!

Look he's so good he even puts on prosthetics and can pose WITH HIMSELF!

Finally got around to inking this punk dorf, he looks kind of drunk now.

Also a stupid stupid elf.

Weapons! Well weapons and other things. This is the cursed sword that the person with the shield is holding. Theres a beholder-like creature to its left and a basic scifi rifle above it.

This is some concept stuff for a game I made for class. I didnt finish the game last year but Im working on it again now, its a lot of work but this has given me some of the inspiration I need to make it more than functional or okay.
Oh and here's something I just did quick. Can't seem to get the headphones quite even.

EDIT: Inked inked inked the weird thing

EDIT EDIT: All my art from today, last one is just Gyro Zeppeli in this style.
