Trinity Trooper 571st Onslaught Division

The 571st Onslaught Division are front line soldiers trained in the art of gaining ground. They only hold the ground until another unit can come to fortify it. Constantly on the offensive, these troopers are some of the best in the Corps.

#488334 The LEGO M50 Ontos Tank Destroyer Project

Posted by Neyo Wargear on 06 March 2019 - 11:32 AM

Greetings SSLFer's!

I'll be making the USMC's tank destroyer (TD) of the Vietnam War era, the M50 Ontos. Ontos is Greek for 'thing' and it sure is a thing.

Again 1/35th scale to match all my other models.
Actual to 1/35th scale.
Length: 12ft,7in to 4.3in at 13 studs.
Width: 8ft,6in to 2.9in at 9 studs.
Height: 7ft to 2.4in at ? studs.

Reference Photos:
Spoiler

Part 1. Work time: 30 minutes. Total work time: 30 minutes.

Spoiler

P1.1: The suspension of the M50 Ontos is fairly similar to the T71 light tanks. The Ontos was to be air droppable and was quite light. That might play into it.

Spoiler

P1.2: The undercarriage of the thing. This will be an interesting build since this is a 9 wide model. The odd width will make this hard to build I predict.

Spoiler

P1.3: The Ontos is odd in the fact that the glacis plates juts farther than most other AFV's. Gives it a dorky look if you ask me.

Cheers.

Helmet Design Evolution, follow the faint arrow.

Trinity Trooper 2019
CqjN7Ub.jpg
Some may remember my Trinity Troopers setting. The Trinity Troopers have been around since freshman year of high school meaning they've been with me for a good 7 years. I decided to redesign them this year.

I made the breastplate of the cuirass based upon pike hulls of tanks such as the IS-3 or T71 Detroit Arsenal to maximize protection. Obvious inspiration from Clone Troopers of Star Wars, though I tried to base it on suits of armor. This panoply is complete with front and backplates for the cuirass, pauldrons, rerebraces, couters, vambraces, gauntlets, codpiece, cuisses, poleyn, and greaves. Helmet is based upon a barbute. The rifle is based upon the M1918 BAR. This is a bare bones panoply upon the body of a fresh recruit.

Trinity Military Forces still use ballistics as their primary weapons of choice due to cost of energy weapons. Ballistics are considered crude and messy by most species due to energy weapons typically killing upon a hit and cauterizing wounds of those hit. With this movement towards energy weapons being the norm, civilizations are advancing defenses against energy weapons and less so against ballistic weapons. The Trinity remains unchanging to capitalize upon defenses being useless against such crude archaic weapons and exploiting it.

Add 10 minutes to the clock. Total work time: 17 hours and 28 minutes.

Spoiler

P19.1: Here you see the M6A2E1-1. key emphasis on the -1. The tank above is a M6A2E1-2, -2, which has the modified frontal hull. Just decided to complete the set.

Some goodies for y'all.
Spoiler

Waiting on my friend to put the track links onto the T71 CMCD. I might install the rendering software he does, but his rig can do a 4K render in 4 minutes, so.

Cheers.

Born to Betray

Rather tragic the story of the Clone Trooper. They were born to fight. They weren't human to others, expect for the Jedi they fought and died alongside. The Jedi saw that they were more than a soldier, each one unique even though they were all clones. The Jedi became their friends, but came the dreaded Order 66. They had to gun down the Jedi, their friends, the ones they fought and bleed aside with. The ones who first saw individual beyond the armor, the face. Then used to enforce a tyrannical government. These are they born to betray.

Hailing from the Kingdom of Northrim, Cicero once had a father, mother, and sister. Cicero's father, Lars, was originally from the Achaean Empire and travelled far north to set up shop. Lars was a young man when he ventured to Northrim. He eventually settled in Kvasirsal. After a few years, he married Cicero's mother, Astrid, a Nordling. Cicero was born soon after their marriage. A daughter was born as to them, Vecca. His father was a blacksmith and taught Cicero the trade.

One day while bringing home raw materials for the forge, he saw a few Inquisitors clad in their void iron armor. From that day, Cicero knew what he wanted to be. He had known of Inquisitors before, but never had he seen them prior. The armor captured his mind and he loved their ideals.

After a few years, he became old enough to his parents to travel and join the Inquisition. His service with the Inquisition hasnt been long, but he is a strong and hardy Ebonguard. He has mainly been stationed in the Kingdom of Northrim where his greatest achievement has been killing a flame mage burning down a village. Other than that, he has arrested a few other mages, his career hasnt been extraordinary, but he is still young. Cicero stands by the ideals of the Inquisition strongly and is unwavering.
Cicero is most skilled with a zweihander. He puts immense power into each swing of his two-handed greatsword which if he misses results his sword cutting into the earth. His comrades can attest to his power as he cut the flame mages arm clean off, and finished him off by nearly cleaving him in two at the waist.

Another ragtag army, but a good ragtag army. I forget how varied armies are at times. I've always liked the Storm Trooper approach of everyone being the same.

The scalemail looks really good on the Frost Ravens, and you did great on the paint with Princess Adrianya!

Marcus looks dope as all get.

I also enjoy the throwback to Skorpiontowne!

Between you and Nightstalker, I feel a bigger need to commission Scorp for Lego or art.
