Biography: Evan, originally named Dakari, was born into the dark-skinned tribes of the deep south, far from the reach of the Achaean Empire. When he was around twelve years old, he and he family were captured by slavers and taken across the sea to be sold in the Empire and chattle. During a particularly violent storm, Evan became so ill that it seemed that he would die. The slavers, when they discovered this, threw him overboard: it was a luck thing that he had not stayed on board, for later that night the ship was sunk with no survivors.
The next morning, a half-dead Evan washed up on the shores of Karak du Vide, where he was found by a group of Inquisitors. He was nursed back to health and raised on the island, and was taught to speak and write the common tongue by a kindly old magic-user named Qwinby. When he was old enough, Dakari (who Qwinby had given the name Evan) joined the Inquisition. He faithfully served the Inquisiton for many years until recently, when a unfortunate incident rocked his faith in his order.
A magical accident had lead to Qwinby being blamed, and the old man was sentenced to the Inquisiton's dungeons, where he quickly died of the cold and, as some whispered, by the strange experiments that the Inquisiton performs on some magic-users. The Inquisitor responsible for Qwinby's imprisonment and subsequent death has disappeared, and whenever he was not on duty, Evan had looked for him, hoping to confront his fellow Inquisitor about his old friend's death.
However, his search was interrupted by the quest to hunt the Mage known as Letom. The search was long and perilous, with many companions dying along the way, but it finally ended with the Mage's capture. Evan was shaken by the events of the quest, and sometimes suffers from night terrors due to him being one of the few survivors, but his faith in the Inquisition has been restored somewhat.
