#485396 Review: Brickfair Virginia 2017 - YEAH BOI!

Posted by brickshipyard on 22 August 2017 - 03:23 PM

Thanks for posting all these incredible creations Nightstalker.  That Ebon Hawk and E.T.'s home are really interesting to me.  Always with the castle builds I wonder how these builders sourced their vegetation as it's so expensive, but the results are without question.

One year I need to visit a lego event like this in person.

#484521 Lamborghini Countach V1

Posted by brickshipyard on 29 May 2017 - 06:18 AM

Hopefully everyone can see and comment on this post.  If not please let me know.

Just a fun project I am working on using the Midnight Transport lego colors black, red, and yellow (you can spot the box and vehicles in the background).  I've always wanted to make a super cool sports car in lego and this is my choice; a Lamborghini Countach.  The windshield took some work!  And it's still not ready for prime time as lego doesn't make a trans clear flag piece. :brickwall:  I will probably redo the front bumper again, but I like the light configuration alright even though I know they sit up higher.  The forward trunk does open for some briefcase storage. I hope you like the scissor door too.

More pictures to come as this and few other vehicles come along.  :shades:

Comments and suggestions welcome!

Thanks,

Brickshipyard

P.S. PM if you cannot comment and want to.  I had some trouble with my last post.

#484520 Fantasy Minifig Contest: RESULTS!

Posted by brickshipyard on 29 May 2017 - 05:49 AM

I have to echo Scorp's commentary as this was a tough contest, despite the limited number of entries, to narrow down the top entrants.  I definitely can stand behind the top 3 finalists as they brought the "goods".  Special shoutout to Ambad for the photography skills.  Your figs could have been the least creative and I still would have voted you high for that!  And hurray for 5% discount for everyone who entered, that's awesome!

Looking forward to the Sci-fi minifig contest as I may enter that myself instead of judging :shades:.

#484199 Lego UCS Mon Calamari Liberty Cruiser

Posted by brickshipyard on 30 April 2017 - 04:03 AM

Greetings fellow SSLF members and visitors alike.  I am sharing with you a very special creation of mine that has been a W.I.P. for an entire year.  Scorp has actually had knowledge of, seen pictures of, and even custom designed decals for this very ship going back to late summer 2016.  I started the design April of 2016.  When it will be finished I don't know.  Maybe posting it here will give me motivation.  This is the only place online you can see it btw and probably the only place I will post for now.

This is BY FAR the hardest build I have ever under taken with a piece count of over 2,000 according to my counting log.  My delay in finishing it is the downfall of my ultimate goal to release this in Lego Ideas and because of Lego's decision to no longer accept Star Wars creations ( as of March 2017) this is no longer a valid entry.  Still, it's wicked big, cool, and UNIQUE.

You can see I focused on a lot of areas like the hangar bay (with enough room for my incomplete custom B-wing), the main amphitheater modeled after the scene in Epi. 6 Return of the Jedi.  This is the Liberty (Model) Cruiser with the wings and not Admiral Ackbar's ship Home One.  And yes this is the very cruiser the 2nd Death Star (insert the Lego Company here) fired a laser beam at completely atomizing the ship into nothing (kind of like my chances of submitting this on Lego Ideas now :brickwall: ).  Ok ok, dark humor aside... back to what's in the ship!

You will note a Med Bay, hallways with control readouts, and in the aft of the ship a command deck featuring a shield generator at the very back, and the Captain's Quarters with a tiny bed and table.  Also, the engine array uses Lego LED lights for two of the main thrusters (as well as to light the hologram globe of Endor in the amphitheater and a single light illuminating the Hangar Bay.

The point I have left off is finishing the upper hull with technic pieces as my first attempt was too fragile.  You can see I found some very novel piece uses like the Airplane Nose and the giant crane pieces from old nautical sets.  Harder to see is underneath where I used the skateboard ramps inverted as this gives the overall ship a certain "levitation feeling" and is to serve as a vehicle garage.

So please feel free to add comments, criticism, and even motivation to this post!  Thanks.

#479531 Scorp's Star Wars Figs

Posted by brickshipyard on 05 November 2016 - 01:39 AM

Actually that Elves line with the dragons doesn't surprise me at all Justin and Lukas! I appreciate the piece selections and it feels like an evolution, a massive one mind you, of lego's first dragons in the Castle Dragon Masters sets.  Ahhhh what an enchanted series those were...

I really wish lego would make a serious effort with castle again involving fantasy, knights, factions, etc.  Until Lego gets serious again about not rehashing city and offering a competent space, pirate, and castle line I am forced to be interested in only Creator, Technic, and Star Wars.

Before I get off topic too much as this is about your minifigures, Justin and others please take a look at amazon at the UCS Sand Crawler which has been discounted a whooping 21% from $300 to $236 before it becomes retired!   :lego_shock:

#458484 Star Wars: Battlefront [17.11.2015 - 20.11.2015]

Posted by brickshipyard on 20 October 2015 - 06:32 PM

Hmmmmm I am reading a lot of mixed reactions from you beta testers.... I did not play the beta, but am upgrading my PC for a smooth frame rate experience primarily to play this

game.

I think I read somewhere the recommended amount of memory is 16 gigs (!) which is overkill.  Every screenshot, video walk through, etc looks crisp and beautiful, but that's not

what made the original two battlefronts a hit, it was all about the gameplay.  For example, Hoth looks just too busy with units.  X-wings and Tie Fighters flying around instead of

mostly snow speeders?  I felt the classic Hoth map was spartan enough you got a good feel for how your team was doing and where you could contribute to win (for AT-ATs it was all about

bringing two together in a formation with rocket snow troopers to reach Echo Base).

But seriously I am worried the developers got caught up in applying so much eye candy and such that this game won't even matter that's its built on a Frostbite engine, it will just be too distracting

or overwhelming to concentrate on having fun.  Really hope I am wrong and will be surprised.  Plus there is always the hope a space DLC will come that isn't buggy as hell.

So your guys thoughts on game play, mechanics, upgrading computer to play, etc?

#253447 lego Star Wars Jade's Revenge

Posted by brickshipyard on 10 August 2010 - 04:49 AM

Hey guys- just wanted to share with you a custom I was planning on doing for myself, that being a scaled down version of my long, lost Jade Saber ship. With literally a day left before I moved out of my apartment I was able to complete this build and I now give you; the Jade's Revenge!

This ship was originally intended to be a dropship for my Rebel Specforce Marines, but I made it convertible to a bounty hunter ship piloted by Ryk Konur who has a back story you can read on Flickr as well as see all the pictures: Jade's Revenge

This ship is also my entry into the FBTB MOC Madness 2010 Building Tournament. Wish me luck guys! :D

#243962 Castle- Wolfpack Tower II- Dark Edition

Posted by brickshipyard on 04 July 2010 - 02:36 AM

Hey crowd,

What's baking? Bet you didn't think I messed with lego castle. Well I do. And it's fun! (Don't worry Star Wars fans haven't forgotten you- got some mocs coming up this month. )

Here is my take on the classic wolfpack tower. It contains a lot of custom elements from all over the lego community, but the build is solidly done by moi.

I have more pictures coming as I haven't been able to photograph the inside yet. This is a completed moc, but I welcome all comments. And yes when I do some more photos I will do it with white background only. These were speed shots.

Thanks guys.
