Star Wars Battlefront 1 or 2?

06 September 2008 - 01:13 AM

I've tried trading in some games today for Star Wars Battlefront 2. The traded games totalled 14, and SWBF2 was 12. But when I got home, I discovered the disc was scratched to buggery, and didn't work. I took it back, but the shop only gave me 14 store-credit for my games, rather than cash. Battlefront 1 was on the shelf for 6. And when they showd me the disc for it, it was in pretty good condition. So what should I do? Use part of my credit to get Battlefront 1, or possibly wait until they get a better quality disc for Battlefront 2 in? Or just use my credit to reclaim the games I traded in?

Mega Man 9

15 August 2008 - 06:09 AM

Halo 3, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl are some of the big-name games that take advantage of the power and abilities their consoles have to offer. But you really need to ask the question: is it necessary? Well, here's a game that answers the question with 'no'.

It's Mega Man 9. After all the games that have deviated from the original series, it's time to go back all the way to the days of the NES Mega Man, with the true sequel, Mega Man 9. By the way, I mean going back to the NES literally. If you thought you could only get 8-bit games in retro-games services, think again, as the 80s standard of gaming is resurrected in this day and age.

Videos from Gamespot.

This may be old news, but I don't see any other topics discussing this revolution of resurrection. So discuss it here.

Sonic and the Black Knight

29 July 2008 - 10:47 PM

While the multi-platform Sonic Unleashed and the DS Sonic Chronicles: the Dark Brotherhood are getting ready for a Christmas release, SEGA have started a new project specifically for Wii hardware and nobody else. Continuing the Wii's exclusive 'storybook series', which so far has only been Sonic and the Secret Rings, a game about Sonic and friends in the Arabian Nights, Sonic and the Black Knight is about them diving into Arthurian Legend. But Sonic the Knave is not alone in his quest to defeat the Black Knight and become a Knight himself.

He has a trusty sword, Calibur... which talks.

Now, hold on - hold on! Let's not just jump in from here and scream 'OMG, dis iz stoopid, SEGA r butchering Sonic beyond belief', when you just sit down and think about it, or better yet, read what the developers have to say about it, you'll realise just how much potential it has. Now, the purists are all gonna scream 'I want speed, not swords!' Well, this game apparantly offers both. And unlike the dodgy control system of Secret Rings, this game is not on-rails, you control Sonic with the nunchuck, and the sword-hand with the Wii remote. I'm thinking it's like Twilight Princess then, only faster.

And Sonic's not alone in his sword-wielding. Knuckles the Echidna has been confirmed to wield two, as well as Shadow making an appearance. Unlike in Secret Rings, you can control other characters and try out their unique abilties. And unlike the Sonic Adventure titles, it's completely optional. Other gameplay features include the 2-3D switching from Unleashed being incorporated, as well as improved mission an skills systems from Secret Rings.

Sonic's quest is to defeat King Arthur who has turned evil and become the Black Knight. Not only that, but you can choose what kind of knight Sonic can himself become. In each stage, there are NPCs which you can either help or attack to build up either a good or bad reputation for Sonic.

Although Sonic Unleashed is the next big Sonic title in the mainstream series, I am actually looking forward to this innovative title a little more. And if anybody on SSLF is actually interested in Sonic any more, please tell me what you think. If you don't like it, please don't bother giving me a big lecture on how Sonic has gone down the pan these days, because I simply will not read it after hearing the same arguement 500 times elsewhere.

Sonic the Hedgehog discussion topic

06 June 2008 - 01:29 AM

Since the other Sonic topics I made are now long-dead, here's a new general discussion topic for Sonic games. At the moment, two new Sonic games have been anounced,

Sonic Unleashed

The multi-platform 2/3D adventure featuring Sonic travelling a broken world under a curse of lycanthropy. At night, he turns into a wolf-like beast.

The World Ends With You

20 May 2008 - 07:36 AM

Well today, I beat the regular game of The World Ends With You, one of the best DS game out at the monent. In case you're an idiot, The World Ends With You is a real-time RPG which makes use of gameplay on both screens, utilising the touch feature to control the action on the bottom and the buttons to control what happens up top. The story goes that a young guy named Neku wakes up in the middle of Shibuya with no memory. He has a strange pin in his hand which lets him read thoughts, and recieves a mission on his phone which says that if he doesn't complete it, he will be erased. Now he must play the Reapers' game for seven days to survive, as well as discovering the mystery of his lost memory and just who is in charge of the Reapers and this game.

Perhaps what this game is most famous for is the silly character of Sho Minamimoto, a member of the Reapers who creates piles of junk for modern art, and is obsessed with mathematics, shouting things like 'You're so zetta slow!', 'You're out of your vector!', 'SOHCAHTOA', 'SINE... COSINE... TANGEANT!' and other funny lines.
