Which games would you say are the biggest copycats?

I hate all of the Mario sports games (besides Mario Kart) I'd much rather play PES or something than "Mario Charged Strikers" or whatever it's called. What next, Nintendo? Mario Horse Riding? Post your ideas here...
Some people are like slinkys, they are fun to push down stairs.

*Enter Xbox FPS here*

actually, enter every FPS. They ALL have to either deal with Aliens(See: Halo), Zombies(See: Resident Evil), or WWII(See: Call of Duty). Or all 3(see: Resistance: Fall of Man)

for this reason, I think FPS is the worst genre of video games ever invented

Well, Portal's kinda an FPS. And you're not fighting Aliens. You're fighting physics. tongue.gif

True Crime was just a terrible rip off of GTA with a twist. Bad fighting, bad driving, and bad shooting. God. If you're gonna rip off something, at least be better than it.

Saints Row, apparently ripped of GTA, though I doubt it, as a lot of it's ideas never existed in GTA, like they had the phone idea first. Anyway's, if it is, it's a good rip-off.

Um, since when has Resident Evil been a FPS?

Anywho, LotR: The Third Age was a complete rip-off of Final Fantasy, dosen't matter much to me though, I hate both of them. Bah, turn-based combat is the worst gameplay ever invented.

And yet, FF has continued to be a stunning game series, which happens to be rated the best RPG series to date, and, it's spawned two other High grossing games, Blue Dragon and Lost Oddysey. Whilst turn based combat may not be the best, not every attack you do will hit, and you get better animations from turn based, unlike just hack and slash, like Oblivion and VIking.

Just because you hate something it doesn't make the game a rip-off of something. Even though the Mario Sports games are based on an actual sport it doesn't mean that their Tennis game is based on "Insert Pro Tennis game here". They are all full of wacky Mario humor.

I would take hack-n-slash over turn-based combat any day (even though I'm not too fond of hack-n-slash), I mean seriously, there are two teams of people who get in line and they take TURNS attacking each other. I would go into a rant but I just woke up and I have a headache.

Not to mention gameplay that's new to that sport. Like in Mario Strikers, they had the flaming soccer balls and whatnot. It's not a rip off of another game just because it's the same sport as another game. rolleyes.gif I dislike the Mario Sports games, too, but that doesn't make them rip offs.

Um, Overlord was a bit of a rip-off of Pikmin, from what I hear, just a more mature version.

Wow. I just keep coming up with original games that prevent me from posting anything. It's so weird.

Area 51 was a crappy rip off of Halo. Duel-Wielding SMG's to fight Aliens? Yawn.

Battlegrounds was a rip off of Age of Empires, but that's cause they're kinda the same engine, right?

Still. I wish there was more originality in it, rather than boring Age of Empires with lightsabers.

You know what stinks about Battlegrounds? It doesn't always tell you about what you're making/researching. You just have to know cause of AoE.

But..but...Area 51 was awesome. crying.gif And besides, Area 51 was just a stereotypical shooter (as was Halo, in my personal opinion) which means that it was a rip off a bunch of games before it, doomed to be ripped-off by other games after it.

A PS2, or PSP game, can't remember which, it was a gigantic, terrible carbon copy of Wario Ware. It even made fun of Nintendo by including Mario and Luigi in one of the crappy mini-games.

Battlefront ripped off Battlefield, but they did a good job of it.

And CoD 3 Multiplayer ripped off Battlefield too, but did a lesser job than Battlefront's diversity.

I think you're referring to "WTF: Work Time Fun!" For the PSP. And yes, it was a crappy ripoff.

The problem with turn based combat is that it's not immersive. Games are supposed to immerse you within them. I should feel that I AM the main character rather than I control the main character. Timeshift did this quite well. While it was not the best game in terms of gameplay the concept was good and it was fun. And because they never showed us the main character they wanted us to fill that space, you are the main character. They attempted it quite well. Now if they gave us Mirror's Edge style fighting moves and got rid of the super arrow launcher it would have been significantly better. but thats my 2 cents that are in now way connected to this topic.

Sorry.

Yea.

I don't want to list all the ripoffs of Grand Theft Auto there are, because I'd be here all day.
