SNOT stands for stud not on top. I.E. this.

I've seen it commonly incorrectly used to mean studless, like this.

DO NOT USE SNOT TO MEAN STUDLESS. SNOT DOES NOT EQUAL STUDLESS.

That is all.

This has been a LEGO related PSA from Admiral Ackbar.

EDIT: Well, the second one has SNOT, but its studless SNOT.

Still, when people use those non stud pieces the studs aren't on top so technically it's still SNOT.

No. The studs are facing up, so they are on top. is should be SNS, or SL.

They are not facing up since there aren't any studs on those pieces I'm talking about....

Someone on C-C came up with this:

SNOT: Studs Not On Top: Studs on side, front, back; Anywhere but on top.
NOSE: Not One Stud Exposed: No studs are showing

Yeah this is a good topic for this forum, a lot of people on here regard SNOT as flat bricks on their creations, when it is quite obviously snot.(pun intended)

Does it really matter? To me all, it means is a smooth, slightly less stud texture to your creation. Now it just seems pointless to seperate the two, as studless really just means an all out version of Snot. rolleyes.gif

SNOT doesn't mean its smooth! It means that there are studs showing everywhere. Studless is in no way an all out version of Snot! There is a huge difference, put down the hash man... And give it to me! whistling.gif

No, you're wrong.

SNOT - Studs not on top. As long as they aren't facing upwards, the studs could be showing or covered, it's irrelevant.
Studless - No studs showing whatsoever, regardless of the orientation.

Understand? Everyone? Good.

Wait... Someone seriously confused the two??? Holy crap.

And just to be clear:

Studs NOT ON TOP: STUDS THAT AREN'T ON TOP, AND CAN BE AT ANY ANGLE, MAINLY AT A 90 DEGREES ANGLE.
STUDLESS: THERE ARE NO STUDS.

Teh names speak for themselves, and I'm not totally sure how they can be confused.

Topic answered.

SNOT: Studs not on top. Any direction not facing the sky be them covered or not. Usually seen at 90 degrees.
STUDLESS: Not a stud in sight. Though that's not strict, a couple could show.

Neither of these techniques necessairly make a good MOC anyway.
