#487768 Star Wars Movies: Attack of the Rotten Tomatoes

Posted by Dalton Westmoore on Yesterday, 06:57 AM

Here are some things that I'd like to see in the next movie:

1. No redemption arc for Kylo Ren. His character arc from whiny apprentice to bad@$$ Supreme Leader was one of the best things to come out of the Last Jedi. It's like one of those pretty frequent what-ifs from any Vader related thing where he thinks about killing Palpatine and becoming Emperor, only Kylo Ren has the guts to actually carry it through. I really hope they don't throw that away in Episode IX.

2. DO NOT BRING BACK PHASMA AGAIN. You didn't use her well in Episode VII, you barely used her at all in Episode VIII, so don't bring her back again in Episode IX. Gwendolyn Christie has done much better in other things, like Game of Thrones, so stop trying to bring her back for five seconds in each movie. She is there for no other reason than to be the new Boba Fett, but the only problem is that Boba Fett actually did stuff in the movies, while Phasma is there just to look cool. Boba Fett is not cool based only off of what he looks like, but what he does: its why the Phasma books and comics staring her are better than her on screen appearances.

3. This is a total pipe dream, and there is no chance of this happening, but I'd like to see Boba be in this film. I'd like to see kind of like a grizzled old man bounty hunter, which, yes, we've seen before in the old canon, but not really to a great extent. Maybe him and Lando can team up and do stuff together.

4. I love to see Force Ghost Luke show up, since he's the only original cast member who can feasibly come back for the last film. I would also like to see Snoke come back as well, not as a force ghost (since Sith aren't supposed to be able to do that) but as some sort of dark side spirit like Darth Bane from the Clone Wars. I would love to potentially see Snoke and his mother dying driving Kylo in a futher downward spiral into the dark side.

5. Please do something cool with the Knight of Ren before you kill them off. I like the fact that Rian Johnson didn't do anything with them, because supposedly he used the Praetorian Guard instead of them, so J.J. or whoever is making the next film better top that action scene if you're going to kill them off like that, or at least answer some questions we have about them before you do.

I'm going to have to disagree with you buddy, because I'd love Disney to actually pander to my interests for once.

Just because the movie is about a Character we know about doesn't mean that it has to be "OOH LET'S PLEASE ALL THE NECKBEARED FANBOYS OOH" A movie about Obi Wan or Boba Fett can still have new ideas or new lessons to teach, but it all hinges on the script or director making good choices. Also, what are you talking about? Boba Fett isn't even white anymore: he's portrayed by a New Zealand Actor. I'd love to see Disney actually do something with characters that I actually care about, instead of making carbon copies of them like Phasma. But Disney doesn't care what I think: Disney only cares about what makes them money, and since Solo didn't preform well, I doubt they will ever try to actually try something different like that again.

Another point I'd like to hit on (because it's apparently an even bigger problem now) is that if the Empire made you uncomfortable during that border scene you talked about, then it was intentional. Disney isn't being subtle or clever with the Empire, because why do that when you can beat people over the head with the message that "WHITE SUPREMACIST SPACE NAZIS ARE BAD DURR" I know that this was probably the case with the old canon, but they aren't even trying. These days, the Empire consists of nothing but Space Nazis, Competent Villains who can't do jack because then things would actually be interesting, and Good People who will obviously desert because when have any good people worked for the bad guys amiright? The more of the new Empire I see, the more I appreciate the Empire from Episodes 4 & 5, back when they were an actual threat: thanks to Episode 6, the Empire is a joke. Nazis were a legitimately scary part of our history, and when the empire was portrayed as them, they were freaking terrifying. Now, the Empire is portrayed like Naizs from propaganda, so they act like stupid clods who are mean sometimes. It makes me angry to see them continualy get away with atrocious writing for the villains, even though they're arguably more popular with fans, but its okay because nobody likes the Empire amiright? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Being embarrassed about a toxic part of your fandom is a really stupid reason for giving up on it entirely. Should I stop hoping for a Boba Fett or Obi Wan movie just because the possibility is slim? No. I want to see a movie with characters I actually care about, dammit, not a bunch of new people who I have zero connection with. Should I probably try to form a connection with these new characters, yeah, but Disney better actually try to make them good instead of being like "Well, if you didn't like Rose or Holdo, its because you're a misogynistic a-hole, not because we didn't write a good character for them." At least they're trying with Rey enough that I actually care what she does, because she's starting to break out of the Mary Sue mold because she's going through character development (I wish I could say the same about the male characters, but like in every movie I've seen with a female lead, the men are either stupid or evil).

Long story short, I don't care if Disney makes movies about characters from the old canon who I actually care about, or makes movies about new characters I need to build a connection with. I just want them to try, not tell me that if I don't like what they've made its because there's something wrong with me instead of them.

EDIT: Yes, I would have liked to have some answers about Rey's Parents or Snoke's past. You know why? BECAUSE I WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THEM. Yeah, Rey doesn't have to be related to Anakin or Obi Wan to be interesting, but you can supply a better answer to that question than "Yeah, they were drunks who didn't care about you. Who cares if people wanted a better answer to this question?!" Snoke doesn't have to be Mace Windu, but the least you can do is answer questions we have about him, like how did he become the Supreme Leader, instead of killing him off in the next movie you show him in. Don't tell me that I'm a toxic fanboy for wanting answers to questions that you failed to answer, you stupid multi-million dollar company!  :brickwall:

Nice work on Athens' armor, although I think the next step for you as an artist is to try a different style with character's faces. The style is fine when the scene is cartoonish (like Lego or emulating a cartoon) but when it is combined with more detailed things like a set of armor, or a lot of background material, it can come off as a bit in-congruent.

But maybe that's just me. Anyway, keep up the great work.

That's just my art style, dude. I'm sorry if you don't like his simplistic face, but if my faces get too detailed, they tend to look older than they actually are. :P

Ah yes!

Seeing Lord Gwyn and Lord Talon fighting puts a smile on my face!

I'm also quite a fan of the concept art for your own universe. I'm curious to know more about the place(s).

#487280 Star Wars Movies: Attack of the Rotten Tomatoes

Posted by Dalton Westmoore on 01 June 2018 - 02:56 PM

But I know people in this thread probably feel those movies DO do well as stand-alone films in that regard and I respect that but I just didn't feel that come through as much as I did in the OT or in Rogue One.

I think that Rouge One was the perfect combination of the awesome visuals of the OT and the emotionless acting of the Prequels. :P

My two cents is that I think that the tone of most Star Wars films have stayed the same (i.e. Cheesy Sci-fi flicks), which is why I enjoy the OT, Prequels, and sequel films equally. Some of them are better than others though, but I think that the Last Jedi got the short end of the stick with the neckbearded fanboys that weren't happy that it didn't follow their fan theory. I do have problems with all the wasted potential that is in the film (you know what I'm talking about if you've seen it), but it wasn't enough that I walked out of the theater angry.

I'm reserving judgement on Solo until I see it. What I'm expecting to see (and hope I do see) is Han going on a bunch of different adventures, kind like Cowboy Bebop.

EDIT: Speaking of fan theories, and on an unrelated note, I think Dan Harmon brings up a good point about them.

#487243 ZONE - Castle Greywatch (A Dying Breed - START)

Posted by Dalton Westmoore on 29 May 2018 - 01:35 PM

"Word spread fast after the people of Illikon learned the truth, to the Empire, Tom is dead. He has an empty grave in Illikon. He told his parents to bury him there if he ever fell in battle."

Agethar was somewhat taken aback by this, but not as much as he should have been.

He knew what their policy, and therefore the Empire's policy, on people with Drake's...condition, but he was somewhat shocked with the callousness of it all.

"The Drakes are one of the Northwest's three major families under the Illikonis... each one rules their own city, and each one has a manor in Illikon. Don't know much beyond that."

"Given your particular experience with the area, do you have any thoughts on what could have gotten Indigo and Darin?"

"I might be able tae offer a few guesses." the Venator interrupted as he continued to eat his food "I doubt t'was Beastfolk what did th' pair in, or land-based Beastfolk at least. Plus, what with 'em being so close tae Deltalund, perhaps they were lost tae th' nearby swamp-lands. I've heard stories from about the quest fer th' mage Letom that mention a specimen of Creep takin' over part o' th' place."

After the normal introductions that all Cainines performed, Maugrimm lead Bullseye out of the study and towards the kitchen.

He would show off his relationship with the Venator Cooks to his new friend: both would eat like kings!

Cyrus reinserted his straw and finished his drink while the conversation continued.

"Though now that ya mention suspects in your order, my friend did keep going on and on about a friend he made in the Venatori that disappeared for his own personal reasons. Some kinda self-imposed exile, real Achaean Tragedy-like. Can't remember the poor buggers name for the life of me, but does that match the story of one of your people out there, boss-man?"

"There are a few that fit that description, but I have a strong suspicion as to the most likely. The timing of his return is too convenient for my liking. Add the protest of opening quarters and we start to get a picture. What did your friend have to say about this man and his exile. Did he ever talk of the order?

"Told me the fella saved his neck many a time, but got zapped by some kind of demonic magic. That's why he left civilization, wasn't sure if he might be a danger to others, whatever got done to him. Though if he's back, hopefully that means his problems got solved."
"Son of a.. I was never quite sure of the boy, not since Gwen. But this is something else." He gingerly pulled himself out of his chair. "We may have a monster or a demon in our midst. I say we find out exactly what it is that Voros doesn't want us to find in his quarters."

"I hate to disagree with you, Crestwell," the Venator said as he rose from his chair "but I doubt that we have to go far to figure out what he doesn't want us to find, if you catch my meaning..."

He looked at the others and said "We need to think about this. He's supposedly been off the map for a while, but he returned in time for this meeting with Agethar of Bjornburg. In addition to this during the investigation of a Faustus Tome in Artorius, three Venatori were involved: the Hill-Dwarf Daisy and the Elves Jed and Forge, and all three interacted with Voros multiple times during the investigation. We might do well to interrogate these three before confronting Voros directly, after all, if we scare him, he could run back into the wild once again."

#487215 ZONE - Castle Greywatch (A Dying Breed - START)

Posted by Dalton Westmoore on 26 May 2018 - 06:46 AM

"It's not, I went there shortly after a long mission in Rognosst Swamp. I'm familiar with Cristina and I'm familiar with the region. It's a good city, ruled by the Drakes. And it's full of good people... all of whom respect their ruling family. It'd be best if we didn't mention Tom or what happened to him."

"That goes without sayin'." Agethar said, clearly surprised that Caiden would talk about Tom and his...condition here of all places.

"But I'm surprised tha' 'is family has their own city," he continued "I always thought that th' Drakes lived in a Manor in Illikon."

Maugrimm watched as the new dog followed the new lady and the Venators out of the room.

The dog followed them into the study, where he moved over to the new dog, where he waited for it to acknowledge his existence.

Cyrus followed the others into the study, where Crestwell pulled out his bottle of brandy and poured everyone who accompanied them a glass of it.

"Let's start from the beginning, if you don't mind. How do you know Silvius?"

The very beginning?  Before I was born, really.  My late dad, Horace Meliora, actually met Silvius in this very order, probably in this very castle.  You might not remember him, he’d barely worn the cloak and arrowhead for a day when he got his sword arm torn off by a verrbjorn.  Always told me he’d been lucky through all his training, only to lose it on that very first hunt. But you can’t span a crossbow with one arm, and he couldn’t read, so he’d be useless in a room like this; so off he went, wondering what in Artemis’ name he was gonna do now. Silvius was his partner on that first and last hunt, though, and always felt it was his fault, especially since the bear so happened to be going for his neck when my dad’s arm got in the way.  When he tracked down where my father ended up settling down, the stubborn blighter made a point of visiting whenever he was near Appledale. The two of ‘em always laughed at how they didn’t roll too far from the old tree, if you take my meaning.  Well, Silvius became like an Uncle, even watched me for a bit after my parents bought it, but I’d no interest in following my dad’s footsteps, so we went our separate ways. Then I got this letter a couple weeks ago, and here we are.”

While they were talking, Cyrus produced a small bamboo straw from his belt and carefully inserted it through his aventail. He then began to quietly slurp away at his brandy.

"The kinda bossy one, your stand-in leader or something, mentioned other Venatori were missing, too?  I've been thinking that maybe Silvius and his partner were the last to disappear, and maybe he noticed the first ones and figured they weren't a coincidence?  You lot'd probably know more than me on that front."

There was a poot sound as Cyrus' straw suddenly became extremely loose and began to wobble around.

"You might want to use a bit more...tact when 'the kinda bossy one' is sitting across from you." the Venator said as he removed the straw.

Posted by Dalton Westmoore on 23 May 2018 - 11:23 AM

In case anybody is interested, here's the three quests and who's chosen to do what so far:

  • Pellio of Krisa & Allan of Whitehorn

Lyneth Brys

Athens Astoria

  • Loke of Pluton & Silvius of Appledale

Sivan and Asti

Kate Meloria

  • Indigo of Deltalund & Darin of Caltha

          Holli Emberleaf

          Auric Khasim

          Agethar Twin-axe

          Caiden Voros

          Krystina Ravenswift (?)

  • Undecided

Araven Karial

Cyrus Malcolm

I put Cyrus in Undecided, since I originally wanted to see if he could seduce Lyneth, but I'd rather investigate the mystery of why Cappy's Inquisitor is here.

You got something to hide under that pretty helmet of yours?”

Yes, but you can't see it yet because I want to build suspense so that everyone is shocked by it. :P

#487131 A Dying Breed OOC - Rules, Character List, and Chat

Posted by Dalton Westmoore on 19 May 2018 - 08:32 AM

From what I can gather, three groups of Venator duos vanished in three different locations. We are starting out with twelve player characters, we could investigate in one of two ways:

1: Investigate each location with three groups of four, which would be quicker but have a higher chance of casualties.

2: Investigate each location as a group, but move slower.

But I think the bigger mystery is why Capulet has an Inquisitor character in this campaign. Maybe she's hunting whatever's lurking in the forbidden rooms...
