#487811 Mission: Impossible - Fallout/Cruise Missile Appreciation Thread

Posted by Saber-Scorpion on 29 July 2018 - 08:18 PM

Just saw Mission Impossible: Fallout a couple days ago. Holy crap, it's so good. I really thought that Rogue Nation might be the last time I would say "best one yet", but... no, this is once again the best one yet. I do not know what dark magic enables these movies to keep getting better and better when most film series tend to do the opposite, but I hope they keep it up. Go watch it, right now. Unless you haven't seen all the other M:I movies yet, in which case you should catch up on them first, since this one has lots of continuity and callbacks to the others, particularly 3, 4, and 5.

There won't be a new page on Sunday, since I will be on vacation, so enjoy this one in the mid-week!

#487796 Elemental Contest #3: EARTH

Posted by Saber-Scorpion on 21 July 2018 - 08:49 AM

Since I might be gone around the end of July, and since we have so few entries, I thought I would extend the deadline and try to drum up some more participants. The new deadline is August 15th!

So get out there and build (or draw) guys! Remember, delve greedily and deep! Feel the strength of the earth! NOTHING BEATS ROCK!

#487776 What Are You Currently Playing?

Posted by Saber-Scorpion on 15 July 2018 - 04:45 PM

So, my main gaming PC died recently, which spurred me to finally sit down and finish Mass Effect: Andromeda on my PS4. I had been warned that the ending was a letdown, especially since it hints at sequels that will almost certainly never happen now. The warnings were right. After the requisite "allies you have gathered" show up, the final boss fight is just "shoot down waves of robots and hack 3 computers" while the Big Badguy spouts the most generic villain lines of all time. I am not exaggerating - they are so cliché it feels like parody. The Big Bad looks extremely stupid too. He's probably the least serious & intimidating Big Bad of all time. He makes Lord Helmet seem like Jon Irenicus.

Anyway, once you hack all 3 computers, he just sort of falls down and dies. You don't even have to fight the Architect he's controlling. Architects are the biggest robots in the game and by far the hardest enemies to fight... but all of them are optional, and the main story is a cakewalk even on the hardest difficulty. The only time I died in the final fight was when the game crashed. Finally, we're treated to a surprisingly short cutscene, after which we get all these emotional ending conversations with the crew, and then "it's off to the next adventure!"... or not. There are hints of an even bigger big-bad out there, and a search for the Quarian Ark - DLC and sequels that we'll have to leave to our imaginations.

There's not much else I can say that I haven't already... It was a lame soft reboot of the Mass Effect universe that didn't try to do anything very new or interesting, but taken on its own, it wasn't THAT bad - not nearly as bad as its critics made it out to be. I don't feel like I totally wasted my time or my ten bucks. Honestly, I enjoyed it quite a bit more than Dragon Age 3 from the main Bioware studio. *shrug* Shame EA killed it so quickly.

EDIT: Oh! I forgot to mention the results of my choices... There weren't many. The allies I gathered showed up, a few characters were different than they might have been (you get to choose the pathfinders of the other races, and who rules Kedara), etc. - but unless I'm mistaken, I don't think anything I did affected the final outcome of the main story. There were hints of dissent in the enemy ranks that made me wonder if I could drop some truth bombs on the Big Bad and talk him down rather than shoot him down (remember how you could talk Saren into killing himself in ME1? great stuff), but those led nowhere. Disappointing.

I had a recent backup, and I was able to remove the hard drives and access them, but I had the comic and some decal designs open at the moment it crashed... and I don't save often enough. :P

But, anyway!:

I'm curious. Does that mean that everybody gets the same minifigure in the Pateron Loot-bag, or do they get their own minifigure?

Everyone gets the same figure each month (plus random weapons & accessories, a pile of new stickers, and a trading card, and sometimes other stuff), but the $100 tier ALSO gets their own commissioned minifig or artwork each month.

And if there's a particular 'fig someone wants one month, I'm willing to swap the regular loot bag 'fig for that one. I only have 3 patrons right now, so it's not too hard to keep up with. :P

Yep, the hood is painted, and the cape is - like most of my capes - just cut by hand from bias tape (quilt binding). But before you buy anything for an Adrianya 'fig, you may want to wait for your Loot Bag to arrive. ;) It should come today.

I've been looking into getting a laser machine and using it to cut capes to sell on my site, like those other guys.

#487740 WG Weekly Comic (and other updates)

Posted by Saber-Scorpion on 08 July 2018 - 06:48 AM

Unfortunately, my main computer suffered a sudden fatal hardware attack and died yesterday, so I lost most of my work on the new comic page. But there’s at least one advantage to drawing the pencils & inks traditionally: a piece of paper doesn’t unexpectedly crash and lose your data. I still have everything except the colors and lettering, so I will be posting the sketch and inks on Patreon for my supporters there, as I work on re-doing the rest of it. In the meantime, here is the cover design for chapter 5! I’m planning to upload the full issue to Comixology soon. Have you tried Into the North on the Comixology reader? The panel-by-panel reading mode is great!

#487692 Gwent & Thronebreaker Released! (Scorp's Card Games Thread)

Posted by Saber-Scorpion on 22 June 2018 - 07:31 PM

I know you've all been waiting with bated breath for my next deckpost, so here's THE BEST DECK in Hearthstone right now:

Card list:
2x Acherus Veteran

2x Argent Squire

2x Blessing of Might

2x Fire Fly

2x Glacial Shard

2x Lost in the Jungle

2x Righteous Protector

1x Divine Favor

2x Ironbeak Owl

2x Stonehill Defender

2x Tar Creeper  <-- Swap these out for 2x Level Up once you can. I still need to craft them.

2x Unidentified Maul

2x Fungalmancer

1x Prince Liam (Greymane)

1x Stormwind Champion

1x Vinecleaver

1x Baku the Mooneater

1x Ysera

Trade out any high-cost cards in your opening hand. Keep the 1-costs and maybe a 3-cost, and keep Prince Liam if you draw him.

Just remember my motto, "If you want to win the race, never trade, just HIT THE FACE!" This is a faceroll deck. Just keep pounding the enemy's health down and keep him on the defensive as much as possible. Only kill his minions if you absolutely must.

Since you have Baku the Mooneater in this deck, you can only run cards with an odd mana cost. If you do, then Baku upgrades your hero power at the start of the game to summon 2 recruits instead of 1, for the same amount of mana. Spam this hero power as much as possible, on virtually every turn. Save your cards and keep spawning & buffing your recruits!

This is a super popular netdeck in the current meta, but few of versions of it run Prince Liam, and I can't understand why not! He's a fantastic card for making sure you can survive in the late game. Since this is an aggressive swarm deck, an opponent with sufficient control can wipe you out in the early game and leave you floundering, drawing a useless 1-cost card each turn into an otherwise empty hand. But if you play Liam, all those pathetic 1-cost peons in your deck turn into random Legendaries! Sure, some of the legendaries suck on their own, but they're still better than a freakin' Argent Squire standing out there on its lonesome. I managed to beat a board-clearing Priest who kept healing himself and destroying all my cards, purely with the power of Prince Liam. The Priest survived my early low-cost onslaught and even gave himself 40 health with the quest card, and probably thought he had victory in the bag... until my endless waves of legendaries came into play! Which is why I say keep Prince Liam in your opening hand and play him as soon as you hit 5 mana.
