#487204 ZONE - Castle Greywatch (A Dying Breed - START)

Posted by Sephsekla on Today, 09:39 AM

Is it truly that much of a pleasure to meet me? My, and I thought you had the hots for Voros She giggled, before offering Krystia a gentle pat on the shoulder.

Krystia blushed a deep crimson.

"I.. I mean"

I joke, Krystia. As I was saying, I mean to give you some pointers on approaching a man like Caiden. Unless you truly prefer spending your time with a girl like me.

Krystia's mouth felt very dry. She'd never really thought about another woman in ... that way before today, but now the images just wouldn't stop. Her own mind was betraying Caiden!

She tried to ignore the soft hand still on her shoulder.

"Aren't you and..." She paused, "the fancy nobleman. You know."

Reaching a decision, she exhaled. "I don't really know much about this kind of thing. I've never..." She trailed off for what felt like the thousandth time. "But I know Caiden feels something for me, I can see it in his eye."

"I'm more of a one on one girl myself." She winked. "I just wanted to give you a little help, ah"

Krystia swallowed audibly. It suddenly felt a lot hotter than the draughty old castle had any right to be.

The two stood in silence for a second before the other woman cleared her throat.

"...I cant say I really recall your name, I apologize." She flashed another smile. "I'm Lyneth, and you're?"

"Krystia" Krystia mumbled faintly. "I'm pleasured to meet you. Oh gods, no, it's a pleasure. We should go and..."

She gestured vaguely in the direction of nothing in particular and trailed off.

If this is still open for business then I will definitely post something shortly. I hope.

Krystia spluttered indignantly as Lyneth dragged her away. She glanced at Caiden and noticed he was looking away. Clearly just as hurt as she was.

"What are you doing!?" She hissed. Krystia took a deep breath to centre herself. Wow, the other woman smelled really good.

"Are you trying to steal Caiden from me? Or did you think we could share him?" Which would be fine, she caught herself thinking.

"Pleasure to meet you both."

Pleasure! Caiden Voros took pleasure from meeting her! Maybe he felt the same way. That spark. Krystia beamed widely, making an effort to avoid Araven's gaze. She knew what he'd say.

"The pleasure is ours." she replied. She'd seen Lyneth looking very seductive earlier, what was it she'd done? It had been very educational.

She extended her hand towards Caiden in what he hoped was a dainty way, and pouted slightly.

Crestwell sensed movement nearby and turned from Cyrus as Brennus approached.

**"I'll endeavor to aid you in your investigations around the castle."**

Crestwell returned the other man's smile with the same degree of sincerity.

"I'm glad we're in agreement. It's a shame so few here can read, or the work could be a lot quicker. Still.."

At that moment the inquisitor burst in. Nobody expected that. Crestwell exhaled irritably and stood back as Brennus spoke to the newcomer. When the conversation reached a brief pause, he took his opportunity.

Time for his friendly old man face.

"If you'll excuse my questions, Inquisitor." He smiled again, this time slightly more warmly. "Did you get this invitation from Silvius himself? Or through a messenger? It would help to know when you last had contact"

______

Krystia wandered through the crowd in a way that she hoped looked entirely natural and not obsessive.

By complete coincidence she ended up right next to Caiden Voros.

"What's the plan?" she asked abruptly, trying and failing to sound at ease and professional. "You're really great. Great at Venator things I mean. Really impressive and -. Ahem. I was just wondering what you thought was the best course of action."

She hovered nervously next to his enormous arm and hoped she'd sounded like a normal person.

Krystia glanced around anxiously. She wasn't used to this kind of large scale meeting, and had hoped to just get through it and get back to practical things. Like hunting monsters. Or drinking.

Oh gods, everyone was teaming up, she was going to get left behind. She couldn't spot Araven anywhere, had he left her behind?

Right. Who did she want to go with? Something very much made her want to go with Lyneth, but she'd also wanted a chance to speak to Caiden.

"I'm available!" She said rather more loudly than intended. "To go on a hunt." She clarified weakly. She tried to catch Caiden's eye, but he was looking in the opposite direction. Wonderful.

--------

Crestwell smiled in his ruined way at the approaching figure.

*"I need use of your knowledge. If possible, I would appreciate it if you could tell me anything you know about the three different locations, as well as the forbidden wing on the second floor."**

"Cyrus, good to see you." He awkwardly offered his hand, careful not to upset his balance.

"I can certainly help you with the castle's wings. Well, except the forbidden wing. Even I'm not that old. Still, there may be a map or two in the library if you're willing to look with me."

Crestwell watched and listened, his face impassive as he took in the debate.

After a while he shifted, pushing against his crutch to stand slightly taller.

"Now is not the time for division. We've lost enough as it is. We are Venatori, not a bunch of common mercenaries."

He cast a steely eye on Caiden.

"I'm no keener than you to open up my chambers, but there is far more at stake here than modesty, boy. Besides, I'm sure Brennus will be the first to welcome us into his." The last statement was pointed.

He turned his icy gaze to the other man. "Isn't that right?"

Addressing the others, he continued.

"In my opinion it's best to start right here. Spend a day or two in their quarters and see if we can learn anything before we run off half-cocked and lose more people."

Agility: 8
Constitution: 5
Perception: 7
Intelligence: 6

Luck: 4

HP: 25/25

Appearance: Krystia is still very young, as other Venators enjoy reminding her. Not yet 20, she is skinny but toned. Her hair is a deep brown, cut haphazardly above the shoulders, fighting her pointed ears for prominence. A few freckles cross her face accentuate her deep green eyes. One day she might even be beautiful, if she is that long.

Inventory:

Venator Pack
1 deepsilver chain shirt
1 set of leather armor
1 set of simple clothing
1 steel short sword
1 silver dagger
1 blue cloak
1 silver Venator brooch
Flint and tinder

3 clean bandages
2 healing ointment
2 sense-enhancing potions
1 strength-enhancing potion
1 anti-lycanthropy potion
Water and rations

1 tarnished Venator brooch

Biography: Krystia never met either of her parents. Her name was given to her by the old woman on whose doorstep her known history began.

The woman raised her with kindness, until she died when Krystia was still a child. Her house seized by debt collectors, Krystia was left on the streets of Illikon with only the clothes on her back and the peculiar brooch that had fastened the bundle she was found in.

Life on the streets taught many lessons, and 10 years later Krystia was a seasoned thief and a nimble fighter. A chance encounter with a venator passing through changed everything.

Throwing caution to the wind she approached, spotting a brooch just like her own (but gleaming). Within a few weeks she'd made her way to Castle Greywatch and joined the order. Maybe at last she could find out who she was.

Krystia has been with the Venatori for 6 months now, and her lack of experience is balanced by her sheer enthusiasm and determination.

Campaign History: N/A

Relationships: A fierce crush on Caiden Voros (but she's not convinced he knows her name), partnered with Araven Karial.

Crestwell

Birthplace: Coronaria

Affinity: Frost
Deity: Athena
Faction: Venatori

Talents:

Balanced Soul
Attributes
Strength: 1
Agility: 1
Constitution: 3
Perception: 10
Intelligence: 11
Spirit: 8
Luck: 8

HP: 15/15

Appearance: Crestwell has been described as a corpse that hasn't noticed he's dead yet. He's missing his right arm from the elbow, and his right leg from above the knee. A large amount of his right ear is missing, and his jaw is a different shape on one side, where the bone appears to have been set badly. Blotchy scars run across all visible flesh. White hair grows patchily on his head, and his tufty eyebrows are the one part of him that seem undamaged.
Inventory:

  • Venator Pack
  • 1 deepsilver chain shirt
  • 1 set of leather armor
  • 1 set of simple clothing
  • 1 steel dagger
  • 1 silver dagger

  • 2 sense-enhancing potions
  • 1 strength-enhancing potion
  • 1 anti-lycanthropy potion
  • Water and rations

Biography: In his youth, Crestwell was an extremely talented Venator, respected for both his martial abilities and his formidable brain. Knowledge he acquired was filed away without effort, and so he was never unsure of the best course of action when dealing with a threat.

Approaching his 28th birthday, Crestwell and his partner were dispatched to investigate after reports of petrification at a small village. They prepared well. After a few hours' hike, the two came across a cockatrice in the hills, and struck.

The two fought valiantly and dispatched the beast, but not without cost. Crestwell was petrified, and in the melee his stone form was sent flying, tumbling down the rocky cliff face. It did not shatter, but it chipped and cracked, losing pieces as it spun.

He would later be cured, but it was immediately clear that he would never again hunt monsters. Rather, his challenges now would be to get through each day.

Over the years Crestwell had found peace with his new state of being, and has stayed at Castle Greywatch. While he cannot fight, he is an invaluable source of Knowledge, and tries to keep a record of the collected lore and reports that have been put together by his more active colleagues.

#486923 An OC's Journey - Discussing Our Errant Inspirations, Influence & Growth

Posted by Sephsekla on 30 March 2018 - 04:56 AM

Well, here comes round 2 for anyone interested.

I've got a couple more characters about, but they've barely done anything yet. So I thought I'd talk about my NPCs from the Rusty Axe: Agnar, Dargnin and Yel.

I'm a big fan of stories that look at heroes after the tale is over, in their twilight years. These three have a story or two to tell, that I may get round to some day.

To create Agnar I started with the imaginatively named Skyrim character of mine, Lord Sephsekla. A warrior, bard and mage. Something of a renaissance man in a tough world.

What would someone like that look like well past his prime? Would the inevitable tragedies of life break a former hero, or would he find peace in the simple life?

My main inspirations were again, Logan, also Kvothe from the Kingkiller Chronicles. There's a tiny bit of the juxtaposition of Brando and Deniro in The Godfather Part II in there somrwhere.

Dargnin followed pretty simply. A dwarven companion, quarreling but loyal, would choose to stay with his friend, even as thr years were much kinder to him.

Yel... Is still at the beginning of any story she may have.

I'm 100% in for this once I've created a new character.

Much as I'd love to try I can't find a way for Garandros Aldor to feasibly rejoin the Venatori (without dying really quickly).

I take it she's mostly comfortable in civilized areas, or did you apply her intelligence to survival in the wilderness?

Oh she's definitely more at home with a hot drink in a library. I was very intrigued as to how someone with no combat knowledge whatsoever would fare.

And yes, she is adorable.

When I have time I'll post about my Rusty Axe NPCs (although I'm hoping to run a campaign centred on them at some point, so I'll redact a few things.

This is a brilliant idea, and it's awesome to see how much thought you've put in.

Like everything in life, I tend to create a lot of characters; The creation is far more exciting for me than actually playing them.

The main characters I've played in Errant proper have been Garandros and Elnira, who I consciously made very different in character and tone.

Garandros is inspired by a number of different characters and concepts. He first appeared as a minifig in a competition, so I wanted above all to create someone visually interesting. The tattered, world weary archetype is always a good way to do that. I was also very much inspired by Logan, and Wolfy's awesome story Hunted.

Elnira was envisioned as a complete opposite. She's inspired partly by a good friend of mine (who uses the word squee in sentences), but also as my idea of how a non-violent but fiercely intelligent person might fit into Wulfgard.

Honestly, I love that her parents were just random people, and I'll be devastated if that gets undone.

Rey is defined by what she does, not who her family is.
