Hmm. The spelling on the poll isn't right. It should be:

*Victorian Immortals
*Yavakaro Hands of the Six

Just a small thing but...

I don't know maybe you're the reason why. :P
Nah, just kidding, that was kinda harsh. Maybe try looking at some Wulfgard stuff while you wait. That's how I got there...slow Nova Refuge days. :P

In retrospect, I should have done the NR CYOA first. I'll do one next.

And in retrospect, you should have updated the Nova Refuge website before you did so to Wulfgard. :P

Oh, they used to. This exactly where I started, and where everybody else seems to begin.
They will, if Scorp ever updates the site with some new character profiles...You're killing me, Larry (Scorp)! :P

Its hard to choose witch is best. The enomegs are most effective and seem to have the largest fan base not to mention cool armor. The immortals are the most honorable not to say the others are not honorable, but they seem to be honorable and they care about the men under their command the most out of the four. Although some of the others fight alone so its unfair to choose one over the others. I guess it basically comes down to the enomegs and the immortals. Me I like the immortals the most. But thats just me.
Life's to short for burnt popcorn. Is it possible to quote Scorp?

I'd choose enomegs. They are definitely the most explained and personalized in the book, and I connect to them more than any of the others because of this. I like how they have advanced armor and the training to back it up. They work alone or in small teams with one another, ensuring that no undertrained soldier holds them up. I love how each one has a completely different style but all are effective.

While they do seem to care about their own men the most, I'd have to disagree with you about the "most honorable" part. I don't know if you've read Warrior Born, but one of them did something very dishonorable.

So while I might agree with his choice on a tactical level, he clearly does not show more honor than the Enomegs.

Yes, all very true, Horatius. But you have to remember that the Immortals are much more 'human' than the Enomegs. They're much more... 'average' soldier than a "one-man army" Enomeg super-soldier. They lead the team, and are required to boost troop morale as a result of it. Enomegs are basically Spartans: lone-wolves, and they can do anything without trying, for *Breaking the First Commandment*'s sake! Personally, the Immortals just seem a little nicer and realistic. True, the Enomegs may be superbly trained or whatever, but it still doesn't eliminate the whole "kick-@$$" portion of it. "I prefer the 'average' soldier," is all I'm saying. ;)

You bring up some good points. I think I'd like the Immortals more if I knew the personalities of more than just Ryan. They certainly are more "human" but since I don't particularly like Ryan (I don't hate him either, he's just not one of my favorite characters), and he is currently the face of the Immortals for me, I can't like them as much as Enomegs.

Compromise between the 'humanity' of the Immortals and the lone-wolf of the Enomegs: Hands of the Six.

They are kick-@$$ Space Samuri but they aren't the ultimate soldiers. They are at the peak of their physical condition but quite a lot of their power lies in the superby advanced technology of Yavakaro. This means they are perfect for stories because when on their guard and in a pair they could take down an Enomeg or a few Immortals, and yet it would still be a tense fight. The annoying thing about Spartans (and therefore Enomegs) is that they suffer from immortality. They only die in epic situations with worlds in the balance.

So Hands of the Six bascically destroy all the others B) :P

Exactly. And that's what I plan to do right by the Aresgen.

Anyways, the Hands seem pretty cool. They remind me of the time when I still had Red Steel 2, by the way. I couldn't open that link, though...

I honestly never thought of it exactly that way. Maybe I should read over that part of the book again.

You haven't played Reach, have you? Some of the Spartan deaths in there are downright pathetic. :P

I think Reach may be the exception rather than the rule. What I meant is that Spartans (especially in the earlier games) can take a whole lot more punishment than physically possible, a bit like Enomegs. The weird thing is how a Spartan can survive falling from outside of the atmosphere and another die from a Sniper shot? Anyway, Spartan discussion is for the Halo topic.

I think that although all four super-soldiers are fairly evenly matched (apart from Highlanders), some of the alien super-soldiers could beat the Enomegs with their hands behind their backs. I'm a just sayin'!

I think the scene in the book that I described above emphasizes the different mentalities of Xarkon and Victory. The Xarkonians have a strict code of honor and justice with very few exceptions, and are harsh in penalizing those who break it. They have a code set in stone, and it is not to be broken. They know they're the best, and they will spread their glory to all of the inferior nations.

Victory, on the other hand, is more about the greater good. They are willing to sacrifice personal honor in dire situations if the net benefit will improve. Victorians stand for freedom, and therefore prioritize the mission over each individual's honor. They know that it is a great sacrifice to act dishonorably for a moment if greater freedom can be obtained.

So that's my take on why each faction acts the way it does. Anyway, with the immortality factor, I don't think it applies to Nova Refuge as well as other settings (such as Halo).
Spoiler
So I think the enomegs are much more "human super-soldiers" than other settings, and the Native super-soldiers are skilled, but not neccessarily superior to enomegs.

Pathetic? Hardly!

It was supposed to be a real casualty of war. Not everyone goes down saving the entire world; and a super-soldier is not an exception. As much as I hate to be narcissist with Dark Edge, this is what I'm going for - Realism, Scorp.
