Some heart-breaking, gut-wrenching, nausea inducing, mind numbing, put my mouth to the curb-stomping news, too. Guess what days I'll be away from the PS3, my friends?... The 26th. Through. The 8th. I don't get how the scheduling could screw up my Uncharted time that bad. I'm still trying to work around this unfortunate turn of events, but the skies aren't looking too bright.
Hopefully they don't just kill one of 'em off like Whedon did Book, though. I think that might just be poor writing. Realistic? Yes, but we just didn't know enough as an audience to justify the waste of his interesting character.
But where Scorp says he likes these games to be upbeat adventure stories, and I agree to an extent, but truly, if they pull it off right, it could do the unthinkable: it could make this game even more great. I mean, I've been watching film noirs as soon as my eyes popped open. In one of my favorite movies since I was around 8, an undercover cops partner, and more importantly, his friend, gets killed in front of his eyes, and he can't say anything because he know it'll blow his cover, causing him to die and thus leaving these murderers out on the streets. My favorite TV show is called The Shield and - well, it's got an episode where I couldn't even hardly talk for days after I witnessed it, and that doesn't happen often, because you know, violent video games and all that. But when it does happen, and it happens naturally, it's poignant and memorable and it affects you. You can't just kill off characters because "Oh yeah, like lets make an art film, k?" but you can do it if it's... real, for lack of a better word. I stress that it has to be truly real, though. If they did kill Elena in Among Thieves I would have gone primordial and saddled up my pale horse to show Roland Emmerich what disaster-porn really is.
So here's hoping that if they do it, they do it damn well right, or else not bother.
EDIT: If anybody can name that film noir, I will sent beautiful angels to whisper sweet nothings into your ear.
Not really. But I will be impressed.
