Thanks for keeping my thread updated better than I do, Nightstalker! :D
And for keeping me drawing too! I'd probably be way out of practice by now if not for you, haha.

Pretty badass stuff lately! The angels are awesome, and I love the Jabberwock, but I'd have to say the best one is that dragon vs. hydra. Good perspective, and the hydra looks great.

#488745 Official Wulfgard Q&A Topic

Posted by Saber-Scorpion on 17 June 2019 - 03:02 PM

Quick question. Not that I am gonna use it for Wulfgard purposes or so. But is there someone that can shapeshift from a human into a dragon, or a dragon into a human? I know there are dragons and shapeshifters, but just curious about this option, even if its too extreme for this setting.

I'm not sure I understand. Not going to use it for Wulfgard? So, is this a Wulfgard question or a general mythology/folklore question? Since this is the place for Wulfgard questions, I will answer it in our universe:

There are many tales of dragons taking human form, or even of other beings such as dwarves turning into dragons permanently due the possession of cursed artifacts, etc., most famously in the case of Fafnir. Some families claim dragon blood in their heritage, citing stories such as these about their ancestors. The truth of these accounts is widely disputed, but since most dragons possess a great deal of mastery over magic, it's certainly possible that they might take on another form, either through an illusion or physical shapeshifting. Tales speak of ancient dragons taking the form of high elves and becoming great leaders among their kind, preferring to interact with the Alfar over the shorter-lived and less magically-inclined humans. They say a green dragon lives in elf form in Mímisholt with the ljosalfar, and a silver dragon rules the mythical city of Voc, high in the Jagged Edge. If any live among men, they do a good job of hiding it.

Part of me is dumbfounded that we're actually getting a Baldur's Gate 3, after all this time and three canceled projects later. The other part of me is already tempering my expectations. It's not the original team (goes without saying), no Infinity Engine (odds of that happening are astronomical), 5E ruleset, likely that no characters from the original series show up unless The Sundering plays with some things, and likely a new battle system that isn't Real-time w/ Pause. Co-op is a good thing though.

So... probably not really Baldur's Gate 3 then. :P Probably just a random new D&D 5e (ugh) game using the Baldur's Gate name for nostalgia bux. Yeah, I know Baldur's Gate is a city in the forgotten realms, but no one buys a game called "Baldur's Gate" because they're such a big fan of that fictional city, lol.

I think Larian are great - I love Divinity: Original Sin - but I can't help being pessimistic about the idea that anyone could revive the true spirit of the BG series. Closest new game I've played to the feel of the original engine is Pathfinder: Kingmaker, by Owlcat. But I'm not sure either Owlcat or Larian has the writing chops to come up with a good enough story. Still, I'm glad it's Larian and not Beamdog.

As for old characters showing up, they might bring back Minsc through some gimmick or other, since he's shown up in some recent comics and games.

#488569 moving Wicktures that you are watching: John Wick 3 Edition

Posted by Saber-Scorpion on 20 May 2019 - 12:04 PM

a gang of actual Ninjas

Eh, I wasn't a huge fan of that part. I dunno, they felt like they belonged in a different film. I've always thought of John Wick as a gun movie first and foremost, and these guys seemed like they flipped their way out of a more typical kung-fu flick. Having some of that stuff in John Wick is fine - I know it's a big influence on the style - but these guys were a little too much. How were they able to effortlessly cut through all of the Ruska Roma gang (the one John Wick himself originally came from!) and all of Laurence Fishburne's badass hobos without losing a single ninja? I also thought John Wick's final boss fight against the ninja waves dragged on a tad too long.

Still a great movie though. Some truly fantastic scenes, as usual. All of the horse stuff, Halle Berry and her dogs, the knife-and-axe-throwing fight... but my favorite was probably the little scene where Wick assembles this entire custom revolver just to shoot one guy with it. Great Western nod. Reminded me of the part in... was it The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly?... where Clint Eastwood just barely finishes putting his gun back together before the guys burst through the door and he mows them down. Wish John Wick had kept the revolver for a while. It was pretty sweet.

I was glad

Spoiler

In some ways I wish they'd wrapped up more of the story here, maybe killed off the whole High Table at the end of the trilogy, instead of dragging it out more... but on the other hand, what other action movies do I have to look forward to?

#488550 Game of Thrones: Chaos Is A Ramp

Posted by Saber-Scorpion on 15 May 2019 - 11:43 AM

Forbes: It Is Now Clear That Having Two Short Final 'Game of Thrones' Seasons Was A Mistake

“This is the hard part of what we do,” sighs HBO programming president Michael Lombardo. “We started this journey with David and Dan. It’s their vision. Would I love the show to go 10 years as both a fan and a network executive? Absolutely…If they weren’t comfortable going beyond seven seasons, I trust them implicitly and trust that’s the right decision—as horrifying as that is to me.”

And then there’s George RR Martin, who has always thought the show was cutting too much from the books. A long time ago he said the 10 episode seasons should be more like 13, and more recently he’s said that the show could continue well, well beyond eight seasons. Here’s him at the Emmys last year:
"I don't know," Martin said. "Ask David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] when they come through. We could have gone to 11, 12, 13 seasons, but I guess they wanted a life.”

Sure hope GRRM finishes the books at some point.
