It's that time of year again, citizens of SSLF. Join me as we genuflect at the altar of brand loyalty and corporate devotion that is E3: the Electronic Entertainment Exposition. Tell me why your favourite brand could beat up my favourite brand, and I'll produce a detailed list of reasons why you're wrong, and if you think I'm letting you in this thread with calm, sober and level-headed opinions then you'd better get out right now. I will accept only the finest of kneejerk reactions, hilarious gifs, tired memes and that thing where you write the same word horizontally and vertically at the same time.

This year, the order in which we shall receive our bounty of hype and devastation is thus:

EA: Say it with me, soldiers: SPOOOOOORTS! FEETBALL! WRASSLING! ROUNDERS! RACE WALKING! I can't wait to get in the POCKET and EXECUTE THE DRIVE! OOH-RAH HUT HUT HIKE FOOOOORE! Oh, and Star Wars. Hopefully we'll get more than just a three-second glamour shot of Amy Hennig's newest hunk this year. Oh, by the way, let me tell you guys about the first time I ever saw Star Wars...

Microsoft: The Scorpio is coming, and with it all that good stuff associated with a new console reveal: meltdowns about price, complaints about the name, and hopefully a lot of cool games to keep said new console fed. Crackdown 3 is long overdue, we know there'll be new Forzas, Halos and Gear of Wars rolling off the production lines, and, I don't know, maybe they'll reveal that Scalebound's cancelling was just a bad joke and it'll come back. Shut up and let me dream.

Bethesda: We're know getting a new Voolfenschtein, and we're pretty sure there's a sequel to The Evil Within coming. Fallout 4 and Doom are coming to VR, so maybe we'll enjoy a man doing the old VR rubberneck routine on stage. Maybe they'll even tease a little bit of an Elder Scrolls? It could happen. I wouldn't say no to a spot of DLC for Prey.

Devolver Digital: These guys are holding a show for the first time this year, the publisher behind such games as Hotline Miami, the new Shadow Warriors, Downwell and any number of other small-ish-yet-pretty-cool games over the last few years. This is one of very few of these shows that's on at a non-ridiculous time of day for me, so I imagine you guys are going to be sleeping through it anyway :P

The PC Gaming Show: Like four hours of interviews with the devs of Euro Truck Simulator and the latest open-world zombie survival craze you've never heard of that makes a billion dollars a day? I don't really know what goes on at this show.

Ubisoft: It's confirmed that neither Aisha Tyler nor Beyond Good & Evil 2 will be there this year, but the Assassin's Creed World Engine has spooled back up to full power, and its gravitational pull has sucked a new Far Cry and a The Crew sequel along with it. I suppose the only way to know whether this heralds a return to the pre-Tom-Cuh-Lancy-ization of Ubisoft, before everything was a four-player bro-op teamchat manshooter, is to sit through this potential nightmare.

Sony: They dropped a lot of bombs the last few years, so I can't imagine what they have in store for this year. I expect appearances from our old pals Kratos, Spider-Man, the Claudia Black/Laura Bailey Dream Team and... I don't know, a Nissan Skyline (they probably can't delay that Gran Turismo game another full year, right?). Hideo Kojima says he isn't going to be there with Death Stranding, but you can't trust that guy. Hopefully their VR stuff will be kept to a minimum.

Nintendo: Their pre-recorded hype show is only 30 minutes long and focused solely on 2017 Switch games, but they're doing their Treehouse streams and ARMS and Splatoon tournaments so there's bound to be more than just the few remaining unannounced Switch games that were leaked months ago. Don't tell me you don't want to see more of Mario and the bizarrely un-deformed humans of New Donk City in Super Mario Odyssey.

Devil May Cry 5: While this technically isn't on the schedule, this is the year. I don't know which conference it's going to show up at, but one thing's for sure: we are 100%, definitely, guaranteed* to see Devil May Cry 5 at E3 2017, and it's going to be incredible. Vergil's going to climb straight out of hell, sweep his hair back, then tell Dante he wants his sword back, and the two of them are going to team up to fight some new big bad, and probably fight eachother at least three times, and I guess Nero and Lady and Trish can be there, but hopefully it's mostly Dante and Big Daddy V getting super motivated and styling on fools.

*
Spoiler

Here is the cross-time-zone schedule chart that I steal from NeoGAF every year so you can see when these stupid shows are on in your neck of the internet woods:

NzCKK0p.jpg

I'll post links to the streams as they go live, but for now ol' Geoff Keighley's Youtube page is up and running with a countdown timer right here. Happy E3, poindexters.

Actually 2K holds onto the Wrassling.

Warner Bros is also doing a daily stream for the next 3 days. Of its titles. Mostly Lego titles. I assume Shadow of War and Injustice 2 might be there as well.

Microsoft has a title from Square Enix/People Can Fly maybe to show off. Rumors say anyway.

Wolfenstien is pretty much confirmed to show up.

Also there is a rumored StarField game from Bethesda. Space stuff you know.

Fortnite

Vampyr

Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Next Batch of consoles...........

PS4 Pro - 4.2 Tflops - 2016

Scorpio - 6 Tflops - 2017

NX - 2017 - Mario Mushrooms, and Link's Hat powered device.

PS5 - 2019/2020 (Powered by AMD Zen family APU)

XBNext - 2019/2020/2021 (Powered by AMD Zen family APU)

You guys, I'm a stupid idiot who just slept through E3. Somehow, despite checking the schedule over and over, I missed that '3am Sunday' means the one that comes right after Saturday night. So here we are 45 minutes into the EA show.

Oh well, it is just the EA show. They're talking about basketball. The Australian guy is promising '30 minutes of pure, unadulterated Star Wars' as a finale.

This is apparently Bioware's new IP?

I know the rumour was that it was going to be like Destiny, but I didn't know it was just going to... be Destiny. The gameplay reveal will be at Microsoft's show tomorrow.

EDIT - There's an actress on stage being really intense about how she's 'AN ADVOCATE FOR IN-DEPTH CINEMA-CALIBRE STORYTELLING IN GAMES' and oh God I suddenly wish I hadn't woken up for this. Battlefront 2 has a singleplayer campaign, I suppose.

EDIT - She's 'all about that couch co-op' oh no somebody kill me.

EDIT - This Need for Speed: Fast and Furious game seems pretty entertainingly dumb:

I really can't take this Battlefront 2 lady. I think she was on True Blood? They have a pre-recorded video from Johnny Boyg, saying he's going to be in the game as free DLC.

So, Anthem... it's kind of Horizon's big dangerous wild world (with big wildlife instead of robots) + Destiny, if the Destiny people were mech-suits instead of guys in the stereotypical, weird, modern sci-fi armor everything has today?

But mostly just Destiny...

Also, I recognize the narrator's voice, but I can't quite place her. It's bothering me. Who is she? :P

I thought it might have been Tricia Helfer, but there isn't quite enough bite to her voice.

By the way, this is the game that Bioware internally codenamed 'Dylan' because, according to the Kotaku article on ME Andromeda's development:

That new IP's code-name, a source said, came because Hudson and team wanted to make the Bob Dylan of video games — one that would be referenced for years to come.

police-reaction-face.jpg?fit=323%2C323

Good luck with that, guys. Remember when Bob Dylan burst onto the scene, looking nearly identical to another folk musician that everyone already knew about and was mildly disappointed with?

EDIT - In this new excruciatingly long segment, everyone pretends that they're excited to run around... Naboo in their Star Wars game. Did EA forget nobody likes the prequels? They're playing as the "ROGER ROGER" droids. Come on.

EDIT - Apparently I only missed exactly two games in that first forty-five minutes of EA's show: Bioware's Anthem, and this game from the creator of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. It's called 'A Way Out', and it looks pretty cool, to be honest. I can't tell whether it has the same 'control two characters at once' idea as Brothers, but it definitely has two main dudes:

EDIT - I think they've finally finished playing Battlefront 2. I desperately hope they have, at least.

EDIT - My face when they cut away from Battlefront 2 gameplay to talk about a free-to-play Star Wars mobile card game:

Battlefront 2 and Battlefield 1: In The Name of the Tsar trailers, since no one else posted them:

Do like how EA mislead us on how there wouldn't be any Rogue One related content in Battlefront 2 during it's reveal at the Star Wars Celebration.  Because right at 1 minute, 8 seconds, BAM, Death Troopers.

So that was actually it. That was the end of EA's show. This mobile game garbage is a post-show thing. I'm scrubbing back through the stream to see what I missed and it looks like all they showed was:

- Battlefield 1 DLC

- Need for Speed: Fast and Furious

- A Way Out

- Bioware's Destiny

- Sports

- Battlefront 2

That's it! Where was Amy Hennig? What is this two-bit sham of a show? I shouldn't have bothered getting up to watch this thing at all. I'm going back to bed.

E3 only seems to get more disappointing each year, honestly.

For real, though, I cannot believe there was no mention of Amy Hennig's game.

I bet it had something to do with Wolfy's favorite Uncharted fan-fiction writer. :I

Anthem looks pretty uninspiring. So this means BioWare and Bethesda are both doing a space thing. I wonder if either of them will be RPG's? Oh wait... BioWare and Bethesda. So these days, probably not. :P

Wonder if there's any possibility of seeing some Cyberpunk 2077 stuff from CDprojekt this year...

Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Ah, there's what I was gonna post! Been looking forward to this one a long time now. Hope it's as cool as it sounds.

I mean, I thought Battlefront 2 looked great. I'm super excited that it's going to a class based system and that we're getting all eras, plus a campaign. I'll admit that I'm biased though. I could see Amy Hennig's game being announced next year, and maybe whatever Star Wars project BioWare is working on. (Are they actually working on anything Star Wars related aside from The Old Republic? I'm still unclear on that.)

As for Anthem... I'm not enthused. It looks like Destiny + Titanfall imo. We'll find out more tomorrow during Microsoft's conference though.

This Battlefront 2 stuff has me pumped as crap, but do you know what would be awesome?

If Amy Hennig was working on a Doctor Aphra game.  :soawesome:

I mean, she's already got experience in working on treasure-hunt stories (*cough*Uncharted*cough*), and it would be pretty sweet to see Aphra in a game format other than mobile, as her comic are a pretty good read.

That, actually wouldn't be too surprising.  Especially since given how the story is for Battlefront 2, EA does like showing stories from the other side of the Galactic Civil War.

In addition, EA and DICE has finally confirmed all post release content is going to be free, starting with The Last Jedi based content in December.  Content from that includes Finn and Captain Phasma, as well as a new planet called Crait.  There will also be a series of in game events, quests, and challenges as the game goes along.  In addition, they gave an idea on how the post release content is going to be release, in seasons, possibly similar to what Ubisoft is doing with R6: Siege and For Honor, starting off with the previously mentioned The Last Jedi centered one in December.

Pretty sure (and I hope it's true) that Amy Hennig's game is about her own characters, not ones that already exist somewhere in the universe.

I still can't believe EA showed up with that. What a waste of time! It's like the invisible hand of fate conspired to make me forget to watch the first half of it just to try and save me. I mean, I know EA is on a different wavelength to all of us, and they're going to make disgusting millions with their sports games and their Battlef___s. But, man, they just played an FPS for like half an hour! A STAR WARS EPISODE I FPS! They made a big song and dance about there being a singleplayer campaign this time, THEN THEY DIDN'T SHOW ANY OF IT!

I don't know how Amy Hennig's game can go from being too early in development to be shown, to worthy of a three second trenchcoat styling tease, back to nothing again. What are we even doing here? What's the deal? You're killing me, EA. You are actually sapping my life away. I just want to see my trenchcoat Star Wars man.

Uuuuugh, well, that was a bad start to E3, but I am nothing if not a slave to hype forgiving, and nothing can ruin this for me. We've got Microsoft, Bethesda and Devolver Digital coming up later today/tomorrow, and I'm definitely not going to forget about them this time. I want to see that Scorpio already. I want to see some Crackdown 3 again; we haven't seen hide nor hair of that game in like two years. E3, you guys! It's not all misery, I promise!

And remember, we're still waiting for a visit from this guy:

How about another suprise?  Firaxis is teasing something new coming for XCOM 2, and will be revealed at the PC Gaming show on the 12.

Moar E3 news!

It seems like both The Evil Within 2 and Wolfenstein: The New Colossus have been accidentally confirmed by a Reddit banner ad going live a day early and an Amazon.de listing, respectively:

TqlH2SB.png

WMgRVFl.png

And here's a trailer for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (the Kickstarted Castlevania spiritual successor):

And Ace Combat 7:

At one point one of the characters says of the evil country, it "attacks indiscriminately, and has remorsefully injured countless innocent civilians", which is ridiculous. Surely they mean 'remorselessly'. How does an error like that make it all the way through voice acting sessions and into the trailer (and probably the finished game)?

EDIT - So, I don't know about you guys, but when I saw the dude in that game A Way Out I figured they had to be going for a stylised theme to the game, because nobody actually looks like that. Turns out, they modeled his face directly from the game director's brother:

DB_J-mVVYAETiLU.jpg

What a NOSE that guy has! Top notch honker. I know it's early, but I honestly don't think this guy has any competition for the coveted 'Best Nose of E3' award.

Oh, have some additional gameplay of Battlefront 2 recorded after the Livestream:

In addition, a quick overview of each of the 4 basic classes, in case you never saw the livestream, or at least when they talked about them in it:

Even shorter summary:
Assault: Jack of all trades, close to mid range fighter

Specialist: Sniper/Infiltrator, Long range fighter, low health, high mobility

Officer: Support, close range fighter, buffs teammates, provides periodic points for both you and your teammates, as well as heals any nearby teammates

Heavy: what the name implies, close to mid range, high health, slow movement, can also get a small circular shield to protect yourself but slows even further

Half an hour until Scorpio, people! THIRTY MINUTES!

https://gaming.youtube.com/e3

Geoff Keighley's live show is up and running, featuring only the finest in people you feel like you've probably seen before but definitely couldn't name waffling about video games. Keighley seems pretty certain the Scorpio is going to be $499, by the way. It sounds like he saw a rehearsal where that was the price they announced, but we still won't know if it was a placeholder or something until the moment of truth.

Here's a Twitch link to the Microsoft show, btw. I think Keighley's Youtube stream will automatically switch over when the show starts.

EDIT - IT'S AWN, BABY! They're starting with that hot Scorpio circuitboard action.

DCEYv5_XUAAz94Q.jpg

Philly Spence is here. He wishes everyone a good afternoon, as if it isn't 5 in the morning and freezing cold oh God.

It's called the Xbox One X, and it comes out on November 7th.

EDIT - While this fellow waffles about the tech specs we already knew, let's appreciate that the initials of X Box One X are XBOX :P

EDIT - It's watercooled and actually smaller than an Xbox One S! That's really cool. I think we've got a Forza to show it off now.

The Forza man has brought a car with him, and he's talking up the 'exclusive reveal' of a supercar that nobody in the world has seen before. It's a Porsche 911. It looks exactly like every other Porsche 911 ever made. Get back to the video games, bro.

Forza 7 looks awesome. It makes Gran Turismo Sport look like the most sterile garbage :P

EDIT - This looks like a new Metro game. More exploring Russia in a gasmask while radiation-embiggened monsters try and chomp you. Phil said they're going to be showing 42 games at the show today, and I think 22 of them were 'Xbox console exclusive'.

EDIT - I think this is the new Assassin's Creed? It's ancient Egypt, at least. A fellow shot five men at once with a quintuple arrow bow shot, then the trailer ended with him facing off against... a basilisk? They might be easing up on that 'historical accuracy' part of Assassin's Creed, then. This French guy is talking about added RPG mechanics, and he accidentally called the Scorpio the 'Xbone' on stage.

They're Assassin's Creeding it up live on stage. You now have the Bethesda game compass at the top of the screen, and the bird/drone for marking enemies from Far Cry Primal. Assassin guy did a sick slow-mo arrow shot while jumping out of a tree. This basically looks like all Ubisoft games rolled into one, with a side of RPG. The player walked past some characters who were too high level and declared them 'too dangerous'.

EDIT - Player One Battlegrounds is a 'launch exclusive' on Xbox One.
