#485263 General LEGO Discussion

I'll agree with the above statement. Long have my mages/wizards/warlocks/elemental desired magical effects.

The walls are basically finished. I need to add to the top of the walls and add some towers in. I might set up a couple of things on the inside, but haven't decided what to add yet. First off, I need to get those corners plates.

Let me know what you think!

Alrighty ladies and gents of SSLF,

Brickfair VA 2017 is coming up!. As usual, I'll be there showing off one of my bigger builds yet. More importantly, like every year, any SSLF folks that I meet may get some cool swag from me. Unfortunately, my usual crew of folks aren't making a massive battle display, but it should still be pretty darn fun!

So who's coming out on August 5th and 6th?

Brickfair 2017 WIP

This is module one. An Ankoran Castle/Fort is going to be built here. I'm not focused on making an interior, but rather making a strong fortification. Pieces are currently loose for the sake of being able to make quick changes. A layer of plates and supports will fill the insides of the wall, keeping everything nice and sturdy.

#484590 Minifig Showcase!

Posted by Nightstalker on 03 June 2017 - 10:34 AM

I might be busy with a Brickfair Build, but my minifigs continue to grow. Let me introduce a very special character:

Wolf Queen Mav, Leader of the Deepvale Pack and close ally of the Lenarian Elementalists.

First off, huge thanks to Scorp for producing the torso decals. The torso is the Savior's Hide Cuirass from Skyrim:

The waist cloth is from Arealight Customs, vambraces from BrickWarriors, bone spear from BrickWarriors, and shoulder fur from a modified CapeMadness cape. When designing her, I wanted kind of a wild look, but one that still seemed akin to that of a ruler. Oh, I almost forgot, the leg decals are actually from the hanging bits of the torso decal. I needed something for the legs, but didn't feel like trying to Brasso or paint a pair of CMF Barbarian legs. Anyways, I really like how she turned out. The only additional detail I would love to add is a scar on the face. But hey, I gotta make due with what I have available. She should have a werewolf form, but LEGO has not produced a white werewolf yet... I am highly considering commissioning one.

So, design details aside, time for me to rant a bit about some lore and stuff.

A while back, I mentioned that the Titan of Light, Leik, held an aspect of Nature called Firisnar. Well, long ago, he created great forests across the world, along with many of the creatures that dwell within them. He was also responsible for the creation of werewolves. Yes, that's right, being a werewolf is actually a blessing of a great being. Werewolves were the original guardians of the great forests. When aligned with Firisnar, they were bigger, faster, and stronger. Their fur also carried magic tattoos which provided some form of magic abilities to help them. Everything was great, until the eruption of chaos, which caused some of them ditch the forest, which ended up leading to the destruction of one great forest and the partial destruction of another. The werewolves that left, lost their forest blessing and became a nuisance to mortal kind, specifically in the west. This basically created a great division among the werewolves, which has remained unknown to mortal kind. Two factions arose, the Deepvale Pack, the last guardians of the forest, and the Bloodclaw Pack, the renegade werewolves. So where does Mav fit in?

Born to the previous Deepvale Alpha, she grew up learning of the stories of old. Where many once stood in the forest's defense, now few remained. As the years passed, the Deepvale Alpha was eventually slain by the Bloodclaw Alpha. Rather than letting her pack fall, she took the mantle as the Alpha. Some openly challenged her, but found her to be much stronger than the others. Under her rule, the pack gradually began to grow and reduce the numbers of the Bloodclaw Pack. She swiftly became known for her prowess in battle. Eventually she found herself befriending Knight Edorin Gwyn, who was also seeking to put an end to the Bloodclaws. They don't always see eye to eye (especially with him being a werewolf hunter), but her role as a forest guardian and pack leader frequently keep her away from hunting the renegades. She still rules to this very day. Those who join the Deepvale Pack have learned much from her regarding the history of werewolves and their true purpose.

Despite the unhappy look on the minifig (I needed a face that said do not @#$% with me), Mav is actually a really laid back person. She is also the only white werewolf in existence; the other was slain by Edorin (don't worry, he was kind of a bastard anyway). She is also ends up becoming a good friend of the Princess of Ankora. I'd dive more into her entire story, but like many figs before, that would take up way too much time.

Maybe I should have my own section in writing... hmm...

Anywho, hope you enjoyed seeing this fig! It was a real blast to make her, and I'm already in the process of making and updating several more figs.

As usual

#484509 Fantasy Minifig Contest: RESULTS!

Posted by Nightstalker on 27 May 2017 - 07:47 PM

When I saw a figure based off of the Mage Emperor, I pretty much knew that was the winner. One of these days I'll win one these contests. Congrats Dalton!

On another note, please tell me we'll have another one of these contests?

The benefits of using BrickWarriors' reward points. Every last item is unreleased. I love the new curved sword, even if I have no idea where it comes from.

Perhaps you all could help me out with it?

Anywho, not much of a showcase, but more of a, "Hey see this sweet loot!" post.

I really like the various TLG items that are found in many of your drawings. It is pretty neat seeing an artist's rendition of them for actual people.

#484226 Custom Minifig Resources

Posted by Nightstalker on 05 May 2017 - 04:25 PM

Hello denizens of SSLF!

I noticed we didn't have a solid list of custom minifig resources listed out, so I figured I'd go ahead and set one up. Hopefully this will inspire some additional creativity when it comes to making cool figs. I'll also go ahead and give a couple of interesting little details about each vendor (especially since I've ordered from all of them).

This will be an ongoing list, that I'll add to in the OP overtime.

Let's get started!

1) Saber-Scorpion Decals

Link: Listen, if you made it this far into the forum, I really hope you realize where the, "Shop," button is.

Examples: Again, if you made it this far, I'm certain you've searched the rest of the site by now.

- I can't create a list like this without recognizing this site first. In case you somehow missed it, this website primarily sells custom minifig decals. They range from various themes from military, sci-fi, fantasy, medieval, and so much more. The decals are similar to that of a regular sticker, the only exception is that you have to cut them out rather than peel them off of a sticker sheet. They're also pretty durable enough to stand light playing (i.e. not dunking minifigs in water or throwing them across rooms). Another bonus about this site is the ability to create commissions! Both minifigs and decals are always made at the same standard as the other decals. All you have to do is provide a detailed description and/or images to assist in the process. Depending on the complexity of the design, and Scorps availability, designs usually take anywhere from one to two weeks. You'll also receive a screen shot of the commission, prior to it being shipped, just to make sure it looks right. Overall, if you're looking for a quick way to spice up minifigs, this is a great solution!

2) Brick Arms

Link: http://brickarms.com/index.php

- Saber-Scorpion: Again, if you're looking for the link, you haven't tried looking that hard on this site.

- Others: http://brickarms.com/resellers.php

- With the ever growing popularity of military themed builds, one company still stands pretty tall for delivering some of the best firearms and armor on the gray market. That is Brick Arms! You'll find products ranging from the Revolutionary War, Civil War, World War I & II, Vietnam, Modern Wars, and Sci-fi Wars. Their products have the best quality you can find in the gray market. The weapons and armor are durable and intended for play; they're basically on par with TLG products.Usually, if you're looking to grab some heat, I'd start by checking out the various re-sellers for specific goods. It is also worth noting that many of their products come in various colors, allowing for a diverse array of colorful weaponry. Another thing to mention is that some re-sellers carry the coveted prototype weapons. Keep an eye out for those, because they sell quickly!

3) Modern Brick Warfare

Link: http://modernbrickwarfare.com/

- You might not have heard of these guys before, but they're pretty darn good. Modern Brick Warfare is a re-seller of Minifig.cat products, specifically their modern weaponry and gear. They sell a wide variety of products including body armor, custom headgear, custom weapons, custom accessories, minifig packages, Tiny Tactical mods (allow for modification of minifig gear), and so much more. The gear is made of high quality plastic, so you don't need to worry about it breaking. If you ever take a look at a lot of the military figs being made today, you'll probably see some of their products being shown off. I specifically like how advanced their weaponry gets, simply because it's one product without the need of any modification. The other thing to note is that they also have other unique items such as dog armor, drones, gas masks, watches, and other gear to make your figures get as tactical as possible. I've picked up some of these goodies at Brickfair, and I can say you won't be disappointed!

#484121 Minifig Showcase!

Once more on a Saturday!

Welcome back folks,

You all will have to forgive me for the short post, but seeing as how it is the 22nd of April, I figure it's time to introduce my Minifig Contest Entry #2. This time, this is a custom minifig, which means gray market pieces were used.

Hope you enjoy!

"Blood knights. That's what they call them. Initially, I wasn't sure whether we called them that because they were vampires or because of their crimson armor. That was until the 9th Legion encountered them. 'There's only a handful of them!' they said. But none of us knew what we were up against. Unholy magic flew at us from their line. Those of us that weren't caught by the magic considered ourselves lucky. At least until they closed in on us. I was fortunate enough to get knocked into a ditch and forgotten, but I cannot forget the screams of my men as my eyes darkened. Once I regained consciousness, I rose from my would be grave, only to see the entire 9th Legion, mounted on pikes. And that, my Prince, is the last time I stepped into that dark forest around Necropolis. For I know if I return, that I will only find my grave."

- Commander of the 9th Legion of Dakerion, Bartholomew Cain to Prince Caelan Alexandros, Prince of Western Dakerion

Though his name was unknown to the 9th Legion, he became well known in the dark halls of the Necropolis. Illaren Skorn, Blood Lord of the Blood Knights, earned yet another merit to his growing list of victories. Having served as a general for Dark Lord Uhlrirk, Illaren is no stranger to battle. Long has he fought both the Dakerion Empire and the Lenarian Elementalists of the Deepvale Forest. Over the many years, he has refined his skill, making him one of the toughest vampires of Necropolis. This eventually led to the creation of the Blood Knights, who were meant to symbolize the true power that vampires and dark magic could achieve.

The Blood Knights are the elite knights of the vampire army. They are stronger, bigger, and much faster than the typical soldier. Along with their physical superiority, each knight is trained in harnessing the dark arts. Their magic is capable of tearing life essence from their foes and restoring their own. This alone makes them difficult to kill. However, the Blood Lord is capable of performing a unique spell. By sacrificing a small amount of blood, Illaren can form a dark aura around him, which is capable of causing foes to spontaneous bleed. Though the effect is slow starting, it causes severe pain, which grows exponentially as battles carry on. Their crimson, plate armor and two-handed axes are standard equipment for each knight. Apart from the unique color, the armor is enchanted to increase the potency of dark magic and provide additional magic reserves for the wearer. The axe is also enchanted to cause additional dark damage.

Blood Lord Skorn is typically viewed as a butcher by all kingdoms and empires. Though Dakerion deals with vampires the most, the Fallgrad Alliance has urged everyone to avoid the lands surrounding the Necropolis at all times. If the warning of the Fallgrad Alliance is not enough, perhaps the impaled trespassers, which decorate the far west of the Deepvale Forest, will be good enough. But by then, it may be too late.

Pieces used:

- Brickwarriors Dark Red Invader Helmet

- Brickwarriors White Curved Horns

- TLG Light Flesh Face (can't remember who/where this one came from)

- Cape Madness Dark Red Mid Cape with Black Fur

- Brickwarriors Dark Red Plate Armor

- Cape Madness Dark Red Waist Cape

- Brickwarriors Prototype Rebel Axe

Again, this is my second entry to the Custom Minifig Contest #1.
